10 For 10: The top boys lacrosse players and teams

The celebration of the last decade continues this week with a look at some of the top boys lacrosse players and teams that we’ve covered here since 2010.

Anyone who follows boys lacrosse in New Hampshire – and probably even a lot of you who don’t – know that at the Division I level, the sport has been dominated by Bishop Guertin and Pinkerton going back to early in the last decade. And as the game continues to grow in the Northeast, the level of talent and competition get better, so the second half of the decade is a little more represented than the first half.

The following are the top boys lacrosse players and team I’ve covered for this website over the last 10 years, with players listed in alphabetical order and the teams listed chronologically.

Top Players

• Ryan Auger, attack, Pinkerton (2016-19): Auger was a four-year starter for the Astros and a three-time All-American, helping the team to Division I championships as a junior and a senior. He finished his career at Pinkerton as the all-time leading scorer with 453 points and the team had a record of 75-9. Is a freshman on the men’s lacrosse team at Bryant University.
• Blake Boudreau, FOS, Bishop Guertin (2010-13): Boudreau was a two-time All-American for the Cardinals, helping them win four consecutive Division I championships. As a senior, he won 81 percent of his faceoffs. Started his collegiate career at Marist College before transferring to Merrimack College, where helped the Warriors win a Division II National Championship in 2018.
• Foster Burnley, defense, Souhegan (2014-17): Burnley was a three-time all-state player for the Sabers and was a two time All-American. Helped Souhegan reach the final four in both 2015 and 2016. Is a sophomore on the men’s lacrosse team at Dartmouth College.
• Brian Cameron, attack, Bishop Guertin (2017-18): Played two years for the Cardinals and led them to a Division I championship as a junior and a runner-up finish as a senior, as the team was 40-2 over that span. Was a two-time All-American and set Bishop Guertin’s single-season point record both years. Is a sophomore on the men’s lacrosse team at the University of North Carolina.
• Sean Cameron, midfield, Bishop Guertin (2017-20): A two-time All-American in his three years playing for the Cardinals, Cameron enters his senior year having helped Bishop Guertin to three Division I championship games, including a title in 2017. Will continue playing in college at Princeton University.
• Connor Donahue, attack, Bishop Guertin (2011-14): Donahue was a four-year varsity starter for the Cardinals, helping them win a Division I championship in each of his four years. Was named an All-Amercian twice and also made all-state twice, including his senior year, when he recorded 119 points. Continued playing in college at the University of Denver, including during the 2015 season, when the Pioneers won the Division I National Championship.
• Bob Fahey, defense, Bishop Guertin (2009-12): Fahey was a four-year starter for Bishop Guertin, winning three Division I championships with the Cardinals. He was a two-time All-American and earned all-state honors three times. Continued playing in college at UMass-Amherst.
• Nathan Larrivee, midfield, Bedford (2009-12): Was a four-year varsity player for the Bulldogs and helped lead them to their first of three consecutive championships in 2012. Graduated as the program’s career leader in goals while being named an All-American as a senior. Continued playing in college at Holy Cross.
• Matt Milne, attack, Derryfield (2010-13): Milne finished has career at Derryfield with exactly 400 points, including 236 goals, while being named an all-state player three times. He was also an All-American as a senior and helped the Cougars win Division III titles in 2010 and 2013. Continued playing in college at Colorado University.
• Dom St. Laurent, midfield, Bishop Guertin (2011-14): Helped the Cardinals to four-straight Division I titles, including the program’s state record fifth in a row in 2014. Named a two-time All-American and a three-time all-state performer during his four years as a varsity players for Bishop Guertin. Continued playing in college at UMass-Amherst.
• Alex Sturgess, goalie, Pinkerton (2015-18): A three-year starter in goal for the Astros, Sturgess helped Pinkerton win the Division I championship as a senior after finishing as the runner-up the previous two seasons. Was a two-time All-American and made the all-state team three times. Is a sophomore on the men’s lacrosse team at Southern New Hampshire University.

Top Teams

• 2014 Bishop Guertin: The Cardinals set a state record by winning their fifth consecutive title in 2014, as they went 19-2 and didn’t lose a game against in-state competition.
• 2014 Bedford: The third of the Bulldogs’ three-straight undefeated Division II championship teams, but Bedford didn’t just win games against D2 opponents. Knowing they’d move up to Division I for 2015, the Bulldogs scheduled games against a handful of D1 opponents, including Hanover, Exeter and Pinkerton, and beat all of them. The program’s win streak would eventually reach 72 games, a state record and the fourth longest streak ever in the nation.
• 2015 Goffstown: After reaching the D2 title game the previous two years – and with Bedford up in D1 – the Grizzlies finally broke through in 2015, winning the program’s first championship.
• 2016 Derryfield: The Cougars came into the year having dropped one-goal games in the championship the previous two years and were on a mission from start to finish. Derryfield didn’t lose to a division opponent all year, starting a run of four consecutive D2 titles and a win streak that would reach 63 games.
• 2017 Hopkinton: The first of three-straight Division III championships for the Hawks, as they dominated the division, averaging better than 12 goals per game while allowing more than five just three times.
• 2018 Pinkerton: The Astros may have been the underdog in the D1 title game, but they had put together quite a resume of their own, with wins over Medfield, Cohasset and Lincoln-Sudbury during the regular season. Pinkerton put together the perfect game in the final to pull off the upset of Bishop Guertin.
• 2018 Bishop Guertin: The best team to not win a championship in the last decade, the Cardinals rolled through the season, with their closest games before the D1 final a two-goal win over Pinkerton and a three-goal win at Boston College High, which ended the year in USA Today’s National Top 25 rankings.
