After big win, Portsmouth makes big jump in NHHSS Boys Lacrosse Coaches Poll
The Portsmouth High School boys lacrosse team handed Derryfield its first division loss in almost six years, and as a result, the Clippers made a big jump in this weeks NHHSS Boys Lacrosse Coaches Poll.
Portsmouth also picked up two wins over Spaulding to go 3-0 on the week and jump three spots to No. 5 in the poll. The Clippers will take on St. Thomas twice this week before heading to Merrimack on Saturday.
Bishop Guertin kept its hold of the top spot after beating Exeter twice and Concord once last week, while the Blue Hawks remained at No. 2 after bouncing back last Saturday with a win over Londonderry. The Cardinals will play Bedford twice this week, while Exeter will take on Concord twice.
Pinkerton remained at No. 3 after getting two wins over Nashua North during the week and then handing previously-unbeaten Winnacunnet its first loss last Saturday. The Astros will face Nashua South on Thursday and head to Concord on Saturday. Londonderry stayed at No. 4 after falling to Exeter, and the Lancers will face North twice this week.
Bedford dropped to sixth despite picking up two wins over Merrimack. Derryfield, which dropped one spot to No. 7, picked up a pair of wins over Hanover before having its win streak against Division II opponents ended at 77. The Cougars will play Hopkinton twice this week.
Winnacunnet dropped to No. 8, while also picking up a pair of wins over St. Thomas; the Warriors play Dover on Monday and then face Spaulding twice. Nashua South returns from its COVID-19 pause on Thursday against Pinkerton and the Panthers also host Souhegan on Saturday.
Hollis Brookline will play two games against Souhegan after getting a pair of wins over Manchester Memorial-Central last week.
