Almost no change in this week’s NHHSSports Boys Lacrosse Coaches Poll
A week into the regular season, and the NHHSSports Boys Lacrosse Coaches Poll looks almost exactly as it did a week ago.
The only change after a week of games was a swap of teams coming in as the 10th team, with Windham moving into a tie with St. Thomas for No. 9 and Winnacunnet, which dropped its first two games of the year, moving out.
Bishop Guertin remained the unanimous top choice after winning its first two games, including a triple-overtime win against Hingham (Mass.) to open the season. The Cardinals will host Salem on Tuesday before traveling to Providence College to take on Staples (Conn.) on Saturday.
Exeter held on to the No. 2 spot after winning its first two games. The Blue Hawks have a busy week, as they go to Dover on Monday, then host Bedford on Tuesday and Pinkerton on Thursday in a pair of top-10 matchups. The Astros were once again third in the pole and they’ll host St. John’s (Shrewsbury, Mass.) on Tuesday and Longmeadow (Mass.) on Friday.
Derryfield is again the top Division II team in the pole after getting two convincing wins to start the year. The Cougars have a three-game week, as they host Kennett on Monday, go to Souhegan on Wednesday and then welcome in St. Thomas for a Friday night game. Rounding out the top five again is Portsmouth, which after winning its two opening games, will host Timberlane on Tuesday and Newburyport (Mass.) on Thursday.
Bedford moved a little closer to the top five, as it held on to the No. 6 spot in the pole. The Bulldogs will have a week off after going to Exeter on Tuesday. Londonderry comes in at No. 7 and will host Merrimack on Monday before having an 11-day break.
After opening 3-0, Timberlane stays at No. 8 this week, and after Tuesday’s game at Portsmouth, the Owls will host Hollis Brookline on Friday. St. Thomas and Windham finished in a tie for ninth. The Saints will go to Winnacunnet on Tuesday before Friday’s trip to Derryfield, while the Jaguars play at Pembroke on Tuesday, host Salem on Wednesday and then travel to Hillsboro-Deering/John Stark on Friday.
