Around the Granite State: Monday’s roundup

Kyle Fink scored three goals and had an assist as the Bedford High School boys lacrosse team got off to a fast start and held off Exeter for an 8-4 win in the Division I season opener.

The Bulldogs (1-0) scored four goals in the first period and two in the second to lead 6-2 at halftime.

Jack Cusack added two goals and an assist for Bedford while Lucas Codair, Ryan Toscano and Gannon Lowrie also had a goal apiece. Sean Tierney made 12 saves for the Bulldogs, who play at Manchester Central on Thursday.

Souhegan 19, Manchester Central 3

The Sabers opened the season with a win over the Little Green, getting four goals each from Thomas Hornor (one assist) and Nick Jordan.

Ethan Hopey and Foster Burnley each had two goals and an assist while Trace Hennas also scored twice. Drew Pollio had a goal and two assists and Curtis Redd had a goal and a helper. Tyler Hall, Kyle Archambault and Brendan Boyer had a goal apiece while Alex Burnley, John Lohnes and Jack Hopey combined to make five saves.

Hanover 12, Champlain Valley Union (Vt.) 11 (OT)

Graham Penfield scored 1:28 into overtime to give the Marauders a season-opening win Monday. Hanover trailed 5-2 at the end of the first quarter, but came back to take an 8-7 lead in the third quarter.

Derryfield 12, Bow 1

Eric Mayer scored four goals and had an assist and Connor Glosner had two goals and three assists to lead the Cougars past the Falcons in the Division II opener.

Lee Sipes added two goals and an assist and won all 10 of his faceoffs and Jon Maclean also had two goals and an assist, as eight different players scored for Derryfield. John Anderson added a goal and an assist while Brian Schwab and Alex Neville each had an assist while playing solid defense.

Avry Truex made seven saves for the Cougars while Jack Perkins also had three saves.

Boys Volleyball

Pinkerton 3, Hollis Brookline 1

The Cavaliers dropped their season-opener to the Astros by scored of 19-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 26-24.

Jonathan Brackett led HB (0-1) with 18 kills and Nick Wood added 12 kills and 18 digs. Scott Van Coughnett had 30 assists while Mike Moscatelli had three aces and Hayden Kabushta chipped in two blocks.

Boys Tennis

Souhegan 8, ConVal 1

Matt Lapsley won the No. 1 singles match over Alex Chambers, 8-0, to lead the Sabers to their first win of the season.

Also getting singles wins for Souhegan were Kyle Gibson, Dale Estes, Jordan Lau Quan and Josh Lacaillade. Lapsley and Estes teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match, while Kyle Gibson and Sam Goddard won at No. 2 and Lau Quan and Lacaillade won at No. 3.

ConVal’s Everrett Landers defeated Goddard 9-7 in the No. 3 singles match for the Cougars lone win.
