Around the Granite State: Monday’s Roundup
The Bedford High School baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings Monday to beat Londonderry 7-3.
Geoff Mosseau got his second win of the season for Bedford (10-2), going five innings and striking out five while allowing one run. Cooper Anibal and Connor Lee pitched well in relief, with Lee getting the save.
Connor Collins and Anibal had extra base hits for the Bulldogs, who won their ninth in a row.
Girls Tennis: Bedford 8, Salem 1
The Bulldogs swept the singles matches to beat the Blue Devils and improve to 9-0 on the season.
Anli Zhang (No. 1) and Abby Ramsay (No. 2) won their singles matches over Salem’s Ari Sullivan and Julie Applestein, respectively, and then took the No. 1 doubles match from Sullivan and Applestein, 8-6.
Grace Goyette (No. 3) and Maylene LaPress (No. 4) got singles wins and teamed up for a doubles win at No. 2, while Caroline Herz (No. 5) and Erin Sterns (No. 6) also won their singles matches.
Boys Tennis: Bedford 9, Salem 0
The Bulldogs picked up their 11th win of the season with a sweep of the Blue Devils.
Mike Soucy (No. 5) and Tim Weeks (No. 6) won their singles matches and then teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match. Ian Horne won the No. 3 singles match and took the No. 2 doubles match alongside Johnny Kiernan.
Zack Gould (No. 1), Rohit Yerram (No. 2) and Andrew Allen (No. 4) also won their singles matches while Adam and Ryan Landon won the No. 3 doubles match.
Boys Tennis: Portsmouth 5, Souhegan 4
The Clippers edged the Sabers, winning four singles matches, to remain a perfect 8-0 in Division II.
Jason Maderra (No. 3), Tyghe Clough (No. 4), Nat Jenkins (No. 5) and Nick Schultz (No. 6) won their singles matches to give Portsmouth a 4-0 lead going into doubles, and Jenkins and Schultz won the No. 3 match to clinch the win.
Matt Lapsley (No. 1) and Nathaniel Kershlis (No. 2) won singles matches for Souhegan (3-3) while Lapsley and Alex Frazier won the No. 1 doubles match and Kershlis and Kyle Gibson won at No. 2.
Boys Volleyball: Hollis Brookline 3, Mascenic 0
The Cavaliers moved 10-1 on the season by beating the Vikings by scores of 25-9, 25-15 and 25-20.
Brett Belden led HB with 16 kills while Jonathan Brackett had four aces. Matt Bonnette added two blocks and Vivek Nithipalan had five digs.
Softball: Hollis Brookline 17, John Stark 3
The Cavaliers offense broke out against the Generals behind Delayni Kovalchek, who went 3 for 4 with a double and a two-run home run and finished the day with six RBIs.
Natalie Paquin and Kenzie Day each drove in two runs for HB (4-6) while Olivia Lukovits got the win, giving up two runs on four hits. Cassidy Pigott pitched in relief and gave up one run on five hits.
