Around the Granite State: Alvirne boys basketball turns it on in 4th to beat Salem (video)
Here are results from recent high school sports action.
HUDSON – Garrett Hall scored 18 of his game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to help the Alvirne High School boys basketball team break open a close game to take a 76-65 win Monday night against Salem.
Down one heading into the final frame, the Broncos (4-2) used a 13-0 run to take their largest lead of the game midway through the fourth.
Hall had all three of his 3-pointers down the stretch while Angel Kangar had 20 points and Sean Chipfunde (15 points) and Luke Norse (11) were also in double figures. Each had two 3s, as Alvirne made nine as a team.
Salem (2-5) got 18 points from Omar Ali while Zach Sangermano had 14 points and Kyle O’Loughlin added 12 points, with both hitting a pair of 3s.
For three quarters, the teams went back and forth, as the lead changed 19 times through the first 25 minutes and neither team led by more than five points. But a basket by Kangar put the Broncos ahead 51-50 with 6:30 to play, starting Alvirne’s run that gave it a 62-50 lead with just over four minutes remaining.
Girls Basketball
Bishop Feehan 48, Bedford 47
Despite trailing for most of the game, the Shamrocks, from Attleboro, Mass., outscored the Bulldogs 13-9 in the fourth quarter to pull out the win on Saturday.
Bedford led 30-26 at halftime, but scored just 17 points in the second half.
Sarah Muir led the Bulldogs with 21 points while Eva Zink had nine points and Juliet Laws and Annie Zink (two 3s) had six points apiece.
Mollie Mullen led Bishop Feehan with 17 points.
Wrestling
Souhegan goes 1-2 at quad meet
The Sabers competed in a quad meet at Bow on Saturday, dropping two of three duals on Saturday. Souhegan beat ConVal (70-12) but fell to Bow (45-36) and Londonderry (50-27).
Three wrestlers finished the day going 3-0 for the Sabers, as Landon Carson (138) and Patrick Casey (165) each had three pins and Jack Kaler (132) had two pins.
Marcus Stout (157) and Gabe Holt (215) finished the day with two wins apiece while Alex Sarfde (150), Nathan Stout (120) and Owen Kostecki (126) each had a win for the Sabers.
