Around the Granite State: Alvirne boys lacrosse holds off Nashua South

NASHUA – The Alvirne High School boys lacrosse team held off Nashua South for a 7-6 win Wednesday at Stellos Stadium.

Brandon Lavarnway and Jon Santana had three goals apiece for the Broncos (2-0) while Ryan Tobin also scored. Ayden Kelly finished with 22 saves.

South (0-2) got four goals from Owen Roy while Wyatt Solis-Serber scored twice. Broden Landsteiner finished with two assists and Cody Jackson had one helper.

Jake Lynn finished with 13 saves and Raiden Chao won seven faceoffs while Tyler Benzekri played well defensively.

No. 5 Pinkerton 15, Salem 3

Cole Summers had four goals and an assist and Adam Scala had three goals and an assist to lead the Astros to the win.

Jimmy Erickson added two goals and an assist while Ben Quintiliani had a goal and two assist and Matt Morrison and Ricky Wong had a goal and an assist each. Matt Gormady, Jeff Gormady and Ryson Michaud chipped in with a goal apiece and Cody Santomassimo and Cole Mackin had an assist each.

Owen Perkins made four saves for Pinkerton (2-0) while Alex Tsetseranos and Dylan Stingel combined to win 14 of 19 faceoffs.

Bennet Atkins had two goals for Salem (0-2) and Kaden Leahy also scored. John Schoenrock made 15 saves for the Blue Devils.

Coe-Brown 16, Milford 3

The Bears opened the regular season with a big road win over the Spartans, getting goals from eight players.

Sam Frye led the way with six goals for Coe-Brown while Gil Bean had three goals and two assists. Joe Fenton, Miles, Brackett, Ryan Matson, Carson Hodgdon, Tripp Donovan and Bobby Lee also had a goal apiece.

Jack Matson and Jackson Alie split time in goal while Jason Pogorek, Cooper Copeland and Joey Alie played well defensively.

Milford got two goals from Braydon Atwood while Ryan Arseneau also scored. Braedon Orlen added an assist. Brennan Cassidy made 10 saves in his first game and Dartagnan Boudreau and Matt Gaumont played well defensively.

Hopkinton 13, Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough 2

The Hawks needed a big second half, outscoring the Lakers 9-0, to pick up their second win of the year.

Patty Buss led Hopkinton (2-0) with three goals and four assists while Merrick Chapin had four goals and an assist. Shane Smith added three goals and an assist and Kip Hedquist scored twice.

Jackson Westover chipped in with two assists and Ozzie Rosenholm went 13 of 18 on faceoffs. Colby Boissy made 11 saves while Cam Bassett and Brayden Crawford played well defensively.

Pelham 10, Gilford 3

The Pythons overcame an early injury thanks in part to freshman Aidan Cote, who stepped in to score five goals as Pelham got a road win over the Golden Eagles.

Mason Frechette added two goals and an assist while Cam Cooke had a goal and two assists. Memphis Patterson had a goal and an assist while Brady Sprague also scored and Chris Swiniarski had two assists.

Matt Sprague was 12 of 14 on faceoffs and Jacob Chafe made six saves while Brad Sprague and Kyle Elie played well defensively.

Bow 14, Bishop Brady 3

The Falcons (1-1) bounced back from an opening-day loss by scoring seven goals in the first quarter on the way to a win over the Giants.

Gavin McCabe had four goals and three assists for Bow while Ryan McCabe three goals and two assists and Brodie O’Neil scored three goals. TJ Ingalls also scored twice and Nate Davis and Billy Smethurst had a goal apiece.

Brad Eckstrom finished with seven saves and didn’t allow a goal in the first half. Luke Virta and Logan Rain played well defensively for the Falcons.

No. 9 St. Thomas 7, Merrimack Valley 5

The Pride opened the season Tuesday with a close loss on the road to the Saints, getting 16 saves from goalie Michael Kingsbury.

Matt Lauren led Merrimack Valley with two goals while Brayden Hussey, Connor Hanson and Colin Reardon had a goal and an assist each.

Girls Lacrosse

Pelham 9, Derryfield 6

Freshman Maddy Paolino had four goals for the Cougars, but it wasn’t enough in a road loss to the Pythons.

Alex Benson had a goal and an assist and Chloe Bremberg also scored while Courtney Wold and Lilly Handwerk had two assists each.

Lily Kfoury made 13 saves for Derryfield (1-1).

Baseball

Pinkerton 4, Bedford 1

The Bulldogs dropped their second in a row to start the season. Charlie Cariello pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing three unearned runs to go with four strikeouts.

Jake Oster went 1 for 3 with an RBI double and Jack Hinton was also 1 for 3 with a double. Henry Dubois went 1 for 3 and scored Bedford’s lone run and Peter Suozzo pitched two clean innings in relief.
