Around the Granite State: Bedford boys lacrosse comeback ends short of Hingham (video)

BEDFORD – The Hingham (Mass.) High School boys lacrosse team jumped out to a five-goal lead in the first quarter Saturday and held off Bedford for a 10-9.

Cobe Rubin had four goals to lead the Bulldogs (2-1, No. 3 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll) while Bryce D’Urso had two goals and two assists.

Bennett Matthews also had two goals and an assist, and was honored before the start of the game for breaking the program record for career points earlier this season. Drew Paskalis also had a goal and Cam Santos had an assist.

Ethan Conn stopped 20 shots and Dylan Riccio was 16 of 22 on faceoffs for Bedford.

The Harbormen (6-0) got six goals and two assists from Cam KcKenna while Finn Bell had two goals and an assist. Chase Beightey had a goal and an assist and Tom McCarthy also scored while Jake Lopes and Frank Csrnko each had an assist.

Ned Wittmann had nine saves for Hingham, which got out to a 5-0 lead and were up 6-1 at the end of the first quarter. Bedford closed the gap to 6-4 by halftime, but the Harbormen controlled the third quarter, taking a 9-5 lead into the fourth.

The Bulldogs made it a one-goal game with 2:25 remaining and had a couple of chances to tie, but couldn’t before time ran out.

No. 1 Bishop Guertin 17, St. Joseph’s 5

The Cardinals bounced back from their first loss of the season with a win over the Cadets from Trumbull, Conn.

Sean McGarry had four goals and three assists and Owen King had four goals and two assists to lead Bishop Guertin (2-1). Camden Hayden added three goals and two assists while Hudson Schmitt had a goal and four helpers.

Hugh Roark was 11 of 16 on faceoffs and Jonah Feliciano made five saves.

No. 2 Pinkerton 21, Nashua South 3

Matt Gormady scored eight goals to help lead the Astros to the win over the Panthers.

Levi Weaver had five goals and four assists and Cade Johnston added two goals and five assists for Pinkerton (3-0). Tyler Barry scored twice and had an assist.

Nate Smith (five groundballs) and Brendan Carney (four) led the defense, along with Brady Blaszka (two caused turnovers). Owen Perkins and Gavin Burwell combined for the win in goal and Dylan Stingel was 18 of 21 on faceoffs.

Girls Lacrosse

Coe-Brown 19, Pelham 7

Nine players scored for the Bears as they picked up a road win over the Pythons.

Avery Keefe led Coe-Brown with five goals and five assists, as the junior picked up her 100th career goal and 100th draw control. Brooke Kozlowski added two goals and three assists and Natalie George had two goals and an assist.

Morgan Readel, Kendall Jackson and Rose Bean scored twice each while Hailey Smith recorded eight saves. Ellie Escabi had five groundballs and Bean had four.

Ella DeSimone and Izzy Santolucito each had five goals for Pelham (0-2) whole Jessie Phillips also scored a goal and had an assist. Emma Bowlan recorded 10 saves.
