Bedford’s Matthews named USA Lacrosse National Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year

Bennett Matthews wrapped up a memorable senior year with one more accolade announced on Wednesday.

The Bedford High School senior was named the USA Lacrosse National Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year, the first time a high school player from New Hampshire has received the award. The announcement comes a day after Matthews was also named the USA Lacrosse Northeast Region Player and Midfielder of the Year.

A four-year starter for Bedford, Matthews finished his high school career as the Bulldogs’ all-time leading scorer with 235 goals and 140 assists, including 71 goals and 50 assists as a senior. This spring, he also helped Bedford reach the Division I championship game for the second time in three years, where the Bulldogs fell to Pinkerton, 17-16.

Matthews was ranked as the No. 3 recruit in the Class of 2026 by Inside Lacrosse and will continue playing at Duke University next year. He was also New Hampshire’s Gatorade Football Player of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to the D1 championship last fall.
