The first day of the spring season saw one of the longest winning streaks in the state come to a close, as the Bedford High School girls tennis team defeated Bishop Guertin 8-1 on Monday.
That loss ends the Cardinals 68-match win streak, which included the last four Class L/Division I championships, the last of which was a win over Bedford in the 2013 final.
Bishop Guertin’s lone win came from Grace Goyette at No. 1 singles, as she defeated Bedford’s Julie Aichinger 9-8 (7-1). Bedford took the rest of the singles matches, getting wins from Abby Ramsey, Anna Corrao, Anitha Machupalli, Anli Zhang and Sydney Fontaine. The Bulldogs also swept the doubles matches.
