Around the Granite State: Bishop Guertin boys lacrosse falls to St. John’s Prep (video)

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Caleb Yeung and Cam Hayden each had two goals, but it wasn’t enough, as the Bishop Guertin High School boys lacrosse team fell Tuesday to St. John’s Prep 10-7 at Merrimack College’s Duane Stadium.

Yeung also had an assist while Brady Dumont and Jeremy Warren each had a goal and an assist. Hudson Schmitt also scored, converting a feed from Warren to score with 27.5 seconds left in the third quarter to give the Cardinals (2-1, No. 1 in the NHHSSports Coaches Poll) a 7-6 lead.

But after Bishop Guertin won the ensuing faceoff, the Eagles (4-1) were able to get the ball back and scored with 4.1 seconds to make it a 7-7 game going to the fourth. St. John’s Prep, of Danvers, Mass., outscored the Cardinals 3-0 in the final quarter.

Jake Vana, Brendan Powers, Drew Bossi and Oliver Rosselli each had two goals for the Eagles.

Will Murphy finished with 11 saves for Bishop Guertin.

No. 6 Portsmouth 15, No. 7 Timberlane 7

Zac Amend had seven goals and three assists as the Clippers picked up a road win over the Owls.

Nick Smith added two goals and two assists and won 20 of 24 faceoffs while Briggs Catino had two goals and an assist. Reilly Collins also scored twice and Ben Purcell and Lucas Patten had a goal and an assist apiece.

Kai Paterson finished with 11 saves for Portsmouth.

Jack Condon led Timberlane with three goals while Austin Charest added two goals.

Hollis Brookline 12, ConVal 4

Ben Dufoe had four goals and two assists to lead the Cavaliers to the win over the Cougars.

Connor Cook added three goals and Bennett Torgersen had two goals and an assist. JP Torgersen had a goal and three assists while Mike O’Hearn had a goal and an assist and Colin Magnuszewski also scored.

Charlie Dee made six saves and Dillon Kinney had three groundballs.

Oyster River-Newmarket 13, Kingswood 4

Tyler Callander had five goals and three assists to lead the Bobcats past the Knights.

Jake Failla added two goals and four assists and Alex Moody recorded four goals and a helper. Dee Tsakiris scored twice and Cole Levesque was 12 of 21 on faceoffs. Cole Norris finished with five saves.

Merrimack Valley 12, Spaulding 0

Colin Reardon led the way for the Pride, scoring four goals, in a shutout win over the Red Raiders.

Brayden Hussey had five assists for MV while Connor Hanson had three goals and Tyler Carter recorded two goals and two assists. Matt Lauren scored a goal and had two assists and Nolan Beck had one goal and one assist.

Ryan Monaghan also scored and Jake Demers and Mike Heine (five groundballs) each had an assist. Jake Leclerc also had five groundballs while Carter Lankhorst was 11 of 12 on faceoffs and Mike Kingsbury stopped all eight shots he faced.

Windham 19, Pembroke 2

Ryan Parke had six goals and two assists as the Jaguars rolled to a win over the Spartans.

Nate Crowley added three goals and six assists and Josh Trudel had three goals and two assists. Jake Suliveras also scored three times and Sam Kramer had two goals and two assists.

Girls Lacrosse

No. 3 Bishop Guertin 16, Salem 2

Anna Campel had three goals and an assist to lead the Cardinals to a win over the Blue Devils.

Bella Dawson and Skylar Naftali added two goals apiece while Kamryn Schmitt had a goal and two assists. Taylor Guibord and Mariella Tomasello had a goal and an assist apiece.

Lauren Redfern, Madisyn Mendell, Arianna Kouchalakos, Elena Marziano, Sophia Harrington and Sarah Brunelle each had a goal. Lola Dumont had five draw controls while Abby Lynn, Maddie Harrington and Grace Menicci had three apiece.

No. 6 Souhegan 15, Merrimack 3

Emma Kennedy had four goals and two caused turnovers to help the Sabers cruise past the Tomahawks for a win.

Libby Kennedy added three goals, one assists, two draw controls and two caused turnovers while Isabelle Stevenson had two goals, one assist and seven draw controls. Lyla Kimball had two goals, one assist, three draw controls and two caused turnovers and Abby Giannetti had two goals.

Natalie Heimarck had a goal and three draw controls and Lanai Hickman added a goal. Ava Grace had two assists and Catie Schriever and Emma Crisman had one save apiece.

No. 10 Windham 18, Pembroke 2

Chloe Hall and Sophia Ponzini each scored six goals as the Jaguars sailed to a win over the Spartans.

Hall also had three assists and Ponzini added two for Windham, while Darby Madden and Casey Dolliver had a goal and an assist each. Emma Kendzulak, Mia Gallinelli, Anna Hartmann and Kiley Candon added a goal apiece.

Pembroke got a goal each from Bailey Gatchell and Laila Al-Shawafi.
