Around the Granite State: Bishop Guertin girls basketball pulls away from Nashua South in 2nd half

NASHUA – Ten players scored for the Bishop Guertin High School girls basketball team as the Cardinals pulled away from Nashua South in the second half of a 66-44 win Tuesday night.

Maggie Gallagher and Holly Dufoe each had 11 points to lead the Cardinals (11-4 in Division I), while  Thalia Drapeau had nine points and Ayla Regan and Kayde Rioux each finished with seven points.

South (6-8) got 18 points from Nicole De Jesus while Addie Borden and Brooke Berger each finished with seven points. The Panthers got back-to-back baskets from Berger and De Jesus with just over five minutes left in the second quarter to cut Bishop Guertin’s lead to 14-10.

The Cardinals went on a 13-6 run to end the half with an 11-point lead and scored nine straight points to open the third, then outscored South 24-12 in the quarter to take control of the game.

Bedford 68, Keene 20

Kate Allard scored 19 points to lead the Bulldogs and set a pair of milestones in her last two games.

In Monday’s win over Pinkerton, Allard broke the school record for points, and against Keene, she grabbed her 500th career rebound.

Mel McCarthy was also in double figures with 17 points for the Bulldogs (15-0) and Sarah Muir added nine points.

Harper Zalaski led Keene (7-7) with 13 points and six rebounds.

Timberlane 58, Winnacunnet 55

The Owls won their fourth in a row with a win Monday against the Warriors.

Rylee Donahue and Sam Mooney each had 23 points to lead Timberlane (9-6), with Mooney hitting five 3-pointers and Donahue had three 3s and was 8 of 10 at the line.

Winnacunnet got 17 points from Kaila Roy while Katelyn Starr, Ariyah Bennett and Izzy Turcotte each had eight points.

Exeter 59, Merrimack 36

Anna McGuinness scored 17 points to help lead the Blue Hawks to a road win over the Tomahawks.

Karli Scherpf added nine points and Lexy Rogers had eight points while Jess Melick finished with seven points and Nicole Melick chipped in with six markers.

Alvirne 60, Manchester Central-West 45

The Broncos picked up a win over Central-West on the road to improve to 8-6 on the season.

Courtney Anderson led Alvirne with 20 points and Julia Adams added 12 points.

Oyster River 50, Bow 41

The Bobcats led by just three with under two minutes to play but were able to hold off the Falcons for the win.

Vivian O’Quinn had 17 points to lead Oyster River and Wren Horned finished with 14 points. Olivia Andersen was also in double figures with 11 markers.

Plymouth 38, Souhegan 37

The Bobcats scored with 12 seconds remaining to get the win over the Sabers.

Zofia Rosenfield led Souhegan with 15 points while Julia Skelton scored all eight of her points in the first half.

Boys Basketball

Nashua South 71, Bishop Guertin 60

Josh Caruso scored 28 points to help the Panthers (10-4) past the Cardinals for their 10th win of the season.

Daniel Karavanic added 14 points and Shane Lemire finished 11 points while Link Vanderhorst chipped in with nine markers. Josh Tripp also had seven points for South while helping hold Bishop Guertin’s Connor McGowan to 11 points.

Eli Youssef led the Cardinals (7-8) with 12 points and Sam Woodward added 10 points.

Belmont 68, Winnisquam 44

The Red Raiders took a step closer to wrapping up the top seed in Division III with a win over the Bears.

Anikan Underhill had 14 points to lead Belmont (16-1) while Keagan Martinez and Brady Thurber each finished with 12 points.

Alvirne 62, Manchester Central 41

The Broncos win streak now sits at seven games after they knocked off the Little Green.

Sammy DeWitt led the way for Alvirne (10-4) with 24 points.

Windham 65, Concord 32

The Jaguars got their fourth win in a row by going on the road to beat the Crimson Tide.

Jack Murphy had 14 points to lead Windham (8-6) while Jackson Blanco had 10 points and Sam Roidoulis finished with eight.
