Around the Granite State: Hollis Brookline girls lacrosse holds off Timberlane
Here are results from Thursday’s high school sports action.
HOLLIS – The Hollis Brookline High School girls lacrosse team rallied in the third quarter and held off Timberlane in the fourth to finish the regular season Thursday with an 8-7 win over the Owls.
Down 4-2 in the second quarter, the Cavaliers (9-8) scored five straight goals to take a 7-4 lead early in the final quarter, and withstood a comeback from the Owls (10-6) in the final minutes.
Sabrina Hill led HB with five goals while Samantha Smith, Olivia Langfield and Nyah Jernberg added a goal apiece. Addison Dougherty finished with three saves.
Lulu Trasatti led Timberlane with three goals and an assist while Aubrey Fitzgerald had two goals and an assist and Lyla Fitzgerald had two assists. Ella Lampron and Ava Paul each had a goal and Kayla Apitz finished with 16 saves.
Both teams are off until the start of the Division II playoffs next week, with each team drawing into the quarterfinals on June 5.
No. 3 Souhegan 16, Salem 3
Libby Kennedy had five goals, three groundballs and four draw controls to help lead the Sabers to the win against the Blue Devils.
Natalie Heimarck scored three goals to go with five groundballs and six draw controls and Abby Giannetti (two groundballs) and Izzy Stevenson (five groundballs, five draw controls) each had two goals and two assists for Souhegan (11-3, No. 3 in the MerchSquared.com/NHHSSports Coaches Poll).
Avery Curran had two goals and two groundballs and Emmie Curran had a goal, two assists and five groundballs while Lanai Hickman scored a goal. Meredith Heimarck had two assists and two groundballs while Sophie Jacobs had eight groundballs and Emma Crisman made three saves.
Marley Bacon, Hailey Christianson, Maddie Behn, Ava Schwoegler, Nat Bryan and Phoebe Handwerk also played well for the Sabers.
No. 7 Nashua South 12, Nashua North 4
Lilee Petricca (six saves) and Emma Herlihy (four) split time in goal to help lead the Panthers to a win over the Titans.
Maren Lowell had three goals and an assist and Addie Borden also scored three times to lead South (14-4). Karina O’Donnell and Carly Benzekri added two goals apiece and Briley Landsteiner also scored.
Nitzann Alkalay, Nevaeh Eppolito, Maddie Langer, Lexi McGuire and Karina Santana played well defensively for the Panthers.
Man. Central-West 16, Spaulding 2
Izzy Orrell made 19 saves for the Red Raiders, giving her 896 career saves with one game left in the team’s season.
Payton Boumel and Sydney Cormier both scored for Spaulding.
No. 8 Bedford 12, Goffstown 8
Peyton Duff and Morghan Dodge each recorded their 100th career point for the Grizzlies, but they came up short against the Bulldogs.
Duff scored three goals and Dodge had two goals and four groundballs for Goffstown (6-11). Trinity Lunn added a goal and four groundballs and Mia Brissette had a goal and five draw controls while Paige Winters also scored a goal.
Boys Lacrosse
No. 6 Portsmouth 12, Kingswood 6
Gus Baker had five goals to help the Clippers wrap up their regular season with a win over the Knights.
Henry Purcell added three goals and an assist while Reilly Collins and Sam Biddle had a goal and two assists apiece and Biddle was also 12 of 14 on faceoffs. Thijs Beelen and Masi Shone each added a goal and an assist.
Sawyer Bouvier had two assists while AJ Craig made six saves and Kai Paterson had four saves for Portsmouth (13-5).
Bishop Brady 14, Stevens 2
The Giants closed out their regular season with a win over the Cardinals.
Joey Richardson had two goals and four assists while Cam Fortier had three goals and two assist for Bishop Brady (10-5).
Drake Bekar scored twice and Thadeus Schmolke had a goal and an assist while Cole Chandler also had a goal.
John Stark 13, Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough 12 (OT)
Charlie Pierce scored the game-winner in overtime to help the Generals come back from a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter.
Derek Tetro led the way for John Stark (3-11) with four goals and an assist while Cooper Twombly had two goals and two assists and Miller Twombly scored three goals.
Cam Shaw added a goal and two assists and Shane Brunini scored his first career varsity goal and played well defensively in the midfield. Parker Hamel made 13 saves to lead the defense.
Nashua South 10, Nashua North 7
Josh Parsons made 30 saves for the Titans in their regular-season finale against the Panthers.
Jared Gauthier, Patrick Shaw and Andrew Cullinane had a goal apiece for North.
