Around the Granite State: Keene gymnastics saves best for last
Here are results from this week’s high school sports action.
The Keene High School gymnastics team competed in its final regular-season meet Wednesday and turned in its best performance of the year.
The Blackbirds finished second with a score of 130.0, behind Goffstown (131.95) and ahead of Bedford (127.7). Bow, Concord, Manchester Memorial, Trinity, Manchester Central, John Stark and Pembroke also had gymnasts competing.
Sophomore Olivia Adams finished first in the all-around with a score of 35.8, breaking a school record set in 2008. Adams and Erin French both recorded a 9.5 on the floor, which also set a school record, and saw them tie for first in the event.
Adams was also first on the vault (9.3), tied for first on the uneven bars (8.4) and came in third on the balance beam (8.6). French ended up tied for third on the bars (7.2) and the beam (8.6) and finished fourth in the all-around at 33.9.
Andrea Pearsall also performed well for Keene, tying for third on the floor (9.2).
Goffstown’s Jessie Seward and Sofie Biscardi also finished tied for first with Adams on the bars, and the pair of Grizzlies finished second (34.75) and third (34.15), respectively, in the all-around.
Cassie Seward, also from Goffstown, won the beam with a score of 9.1, while Bedford’s Molly Ward (33.15) and Bow’s Emma Stocks (32.4) were fifth and sixth, respectively, in the all-around.
Swimming
Blackbirds, others wrapup regular season
Swimmers from Keene, Monadnock, ConVal and Fall Mountain completed their regular season Tuesday at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt.
For the Keene boys, the 200 freestyle relay team of Andrew O’Donnell, Sullivan Murray, Dominic Smith and Conrad Smith set a pool record by finishing in 1:36.72.
Olivia Cutler qualified for the state meet for the Keene girls in the 50 freestyle, finishing in 28.98, while Sawyer Condap also qualified for the Monadnock girls in the 100 backstroke, with a time of 1:11.98.
