Around the Granite State: Mascoma Valley field hockey keeps rolling

Makenna Houston had a goal and an assist to help the Mascoma Valley Regional High School field hockey team to a 3-1 road win Tuesday over Gilford.

Houston scored what proved to be the game-winner with about two minutes left in the third quarter and assisted on a goal by freshman Sophia Smith that gave the Royals (4-1) an early lead.

Ellie McGrody scored in the fourth quarter for an insurance goal while freshman Avery Peck played well and goalie Sam Harkins led the defense down the stretch to keep Mascoma in front.

No. 5 Souhegan 6, Milford 0

Ella Duclos scored twice to help the Sabers to the win over the Spartans.

Scarlett Locolst, Ella Russell and Ella Normandin also had goals and Avery Wyborney scored on a penalty stroke for Souhegan (8-0, No. 5 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll).

Eme Godin, Mariellah Dart and Abby Mayo each had an assist and Olivia Harrison earned the shutout in goal.

No. 7 Oyster River 4, Plymouth 0

The Bobcats fell to the Bobcats despite getting 30 saves from goalie Carmen Donis.

Mabel Shuffleton also played well on defense for Plymouth (6-3).

Derryfield 3, Merrimack Valley 2

The Pride came up on the short end of a back-and-forth game against the Cougars.

Alayna Weddall and Abbey Thompson had a goal apiece for Merrimack Valley (3-6) while Zetta St. Onge and Lauren Bailey each added an assist. Derryfield finished with 12 penalty corners while the Pride had four.

Mascenic 4, Monadnock 1

The Huskies fought off an opening charge but couldn’t keep the Vikings at bay throughout in the loss.

Jillian Ellis had the lone goal for Monadnock (2-5) and Makayla Harwood finished with 27 saves. Mascenic had 15 penalty corners to four for Monadnock.

Girls Volleyball

Raymond 3, Portsmouth Christian 2

The Eagles dropped a five-set match to the Rams by scores of 16-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-20 and 15-13.

Bea Monahan had 12 kills and eight digs for PCA (1-4) and Lexi Jordan had 34 assists, four aces and seven digs. Dylan Anderson added seven kills and Molly Marquis had nine kills and three aces. while Marion Spurr added six aces.
