Around the Granite State: Merrimack girls lacrosse rolls in 2nd half to beat Hollis Brookline (video)
Here are results from Thursday’s high school playoff action.
MERRIMACK – Payton Trepaney and Riley Taylor each had five goals to help lead the second-seeded Merrimack High School girls lacrosse team to a 15-4 win Thursday over No. 7 Hollis Brookline in the Division II quarterfinals.
Trepaney also had an assist while Ava Martin had three goals and an assist and Lyla Carls and Lexi Bell added a goal apiece. Jackie Hayes recorded an assist and Sophia Richard made 10 saves for the Tomahawks (14-1), who advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2012.
The Cavaliers (9-9) got two goals from Sabrina Hill while Sam Smith and Olivia Langfield had a goal apiece. Addison Dougherty made nine saves in goal.
The Tomahawks will now face No. 3 Merrimack Valley in the semifinals at 12 p.m. Saturday at Stellos Stadium in Nashua.
No. 3 Merrimack Valley 14, No. 6 Oyster River-Newmarket 9
The Pride picked up a win in the D2 quarterfinals for the first time by beating the Bobcats.
Alyssa Brodeur led Merrimack Valley (11-4) with four goals while Lily Jones had a goal and three assists. Kaiya Mercier and Ella Frink added three goals apiece while Abby Thompson had a goal and two assists.
Sydney Bailey and Lauren Bailey each had a goal and an assist while Ashlyn Fortier had a helper. Taylor Gionet finished with 11 saves for the Pride, who advanced to the semifinals for the first time.
Grace Royal led Oyster River-Newmarket (9-7) with five goals and Gwen Dulac scored twice. Mia Weglarz and Ashling Ferris also had a goal apiece and Eliza Farwell made seven saves.
No. 1 Winnacunnet 20, No. 9 Kingswood 6
Sky Mace had three goals and two assists to lead the Warriors to a win over the Knights in the D2 quarterfinals.
McKinley Fowler (one assist), Annika Jacques and Teagan Rooney also scored three goals apiece and Emmy Granger and Elle Emery added two apiece for Winnacunnet (16-1).
Ari Rizzo (one assist), Emily Arlington, Kiala Roy and Addy McErlain each had a goal and Sarah Rademacher finished with three assists.
The Warriors will play in the semifinals at 2 p.m. on Saturday against No. 5 Hanover at Stellos Stadium in Nashua.
No. 5 Hanover 13, No. 4 Timberlane 7
Cassidy Loughman (one assist) and Nora Bradley each scored four goals to lead the Bears to a quarterfinal win over the Owls.
Maeve Bradley had three goals and an assist while Casey Wilkinson and Kat Mosley had a goal apiece. Charlotte Robinson finished with 11 saves for Hanover (11-6).
Timberlane (10-7) got three goals each from Lila Fitzgerald (one assist) and Julia Johnson. Lulu Trasatti also had a goal while Aubrey Fitzgerald had an assist and Ella Watts, Mia Morrier and Ella Lampron also played well.
Emma Norcott, Ava Stewart, Tatenda Chanakira and Sophie Doherty played well on defense and Kayla Apitz made 10 saves.
D1 Girls Quarterfinals
No. 4 Exeter 13, No. 5 Nashua South 11
Eight players had a goal for the Blue Hawks as they beat the Panthers to return to the semifinals for the first time since 2015.
Hailey O’Kane had three goals while Racquel Battle, Karli Scherpf and Riley Benevides had two goals apiece for Exeter (15-4). Grace McIlroy added four assists and Anna Lieberman and Alex Girard had a goal and two assists apiece.
Phoebe Christenson and Josie Drunsic also had a goal apiece and Molly Byrne made eight saves for the Blue Hawks.
South (14-5) got four goals apiece from Karina O’Donnell and Carly Benzekri. Addie Borden added two goals and Maren Lowell had a goal and an assist apiece while Lilee Petricca made eight saves.
Exeter will take on top-seeded Portsmouth in the semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter.
No. 1 Portsmouth 20, No. 9 Windham 5
Morgan Ruhnke and Gigner Vinciguerra (one assist) each had five goals to lead the Clippers to a win over the Jaguars.
Raegan Lawton also had three goals and an assist while Lily Patterson had two goals and an assist and Georgia Bouvier and Addie Delisle had a goal and two assists for Portsmouth (18-0).
Elliot Blenkinsop also had a goal and an assist while Emery Lawton and Abby Stacy had a goal apiece. Sage Bussiere finished with three saves.
D3 Girls Quarterfinals
No. 1 St. Thomas 15, No. 9 Coe-Brown 5
Talula Gregg and Kensley Harris each had four goals as the Saints knocked off the Bears to return to the semifinals.
Charlotte De Tolla added three goals and Lizzy Holden had two for St. Thomas (15-1) while Reece Anderson and Julia Bryan added a goal apiece.
Chloe Baker finished with six saves while Ava Lyder and Lena Shaheen played well defensively.
Coe-Brown (9-7) got two goals and an assist from Ellie Escabi while Brooke Kozlowski had a goal and an assist. Avery Keefe and Rose Bean both scored and Alexis Muse had 17 saves, giving her a career-high 171 on the season.
Ady Moynihan and Kenzie Silva also played well defensively for the Bears.
St. Thomas will face No. 5 Bow in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Saturday at Bank of NH Stadium in Laconia.
No. 3 Hopkinton 10, No. 6 Derryfield 8
Sydney Westover and Maeve Owens each had four goals to lead the Hawks past the Cougars.
Hopkinton (14-2) jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter but Derryfield (13-4) was able to get within 9-6 at halftime. Despite scoring just once in the second half, the Hawks were able to hang on for the win.
Lilly Chodosh and Avery Chase added a goal apiece and Molly Hodgdon chipped in with an assist for Hopkinton. Grace Hodgdon made two saves while Autumn Meier, Helen Yeaton, Ryan Lang and Mary Maughan played well in the win.
Hopkinton moves on to face Gilford in the semifinals at 4 p.m. Saturday at Bank of NH Stadium in Laconia.
No. 2 Gilford 19, No. 7 Laconia 2
Leah Davignon and Abby Watson had a hand in 17 of the Golden Eagles’ goals as they knocked off the Sachems.
Davignon scored six goals and had an assist while Watson had five goals and five assists to lead Gilford (14-2). Liv Keenan scored twice and had an assist while also getting nine draw controls.
Calia Blackey and Addy Normandin had two goals apiece and Addi Harris and Celia Plourde added a goal apiece. Lilly Windward finished with three saves.
D2 Boys Preliminary Round
No. 10 Hanover 7, No. 7 Goffstown 6
Henry Cotter made 22 saves and Schuyler Clapp had two goals and four assists as the Bears grabbed a playoff win over the Grizzlies.
JJ Bornstein also had two goals while Sam Bagatell had a goal and an assist for Hanover (6-9). Michael Anderson and Jake Rotchford added a goal apiece.
Hanover will travel to No. 2 Winnacunnet for the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
No. 8 Oyster River-Newmarket 8, No. 9 Merrimack Valley 7
The Bobcats rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to knock off the Pride and advance to the quarterfinals.
Carter Michaud scored two goals and had 10 groundballs and Jeff Keyes had a goal and two assists for Oyster River-Newmarket (9-7). Dee Tsakiris and Jadyn Smart each had a goal and an assist while Alex Moody and Toby Bergeron-Killough also scored.
Cole Levesque added a goal and was 14 of 19 on faceoffs while Talon Beyer had two assists and Cole Norris made sevens saves.
D3 Boys Preliminary Round
No. 6 Campbell 12, No. 11 Pelham 5
Cruz Sandquist scored six goals and had two assists to help the Cougars get a playoff win over the Pythons.
Matthew DeCarli and Tyler Breton had two goals and an assist apiece and Nate Lencki had three assists for Campbell (11-5). Zac Hannah added a goal and an assist and Evan Molino also scored.
Scott Hershberger and Sage Anctil both recorded an assist and Will O’Brien made 11 saves.
Campbell moves on to the quarterfinals at 5 p.m. Saturday on the road against Bow.
No. 9 Kearsarge 12, No. 8 ConVal 6
Eli Whipple had three goals to help lead the Cougars to a playoff win over the Cougars, despite falling behind by three goals early.
Will Spanos, Quinn Cusick and Ollie Smith each had two goals and two assists for Kearsarge (10-5). Gunner Benedict added a goal, as did goalie Brodie Malynowski, and Noah Whipple recorded an assist.
Kearsarge advances to face top-seeded Coe-Brown on the road at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
