Around the Granite State: Nashua South girls basketball holds on against Windham (video)

NASHUA – The Nashua High School South girls basketball team started fast and held on down the stretch to get a 47-35 win Thursday night against Windham.

The Panthers (6-1) hit six of its nine 3-pointers in the first half to build a 29-11 after 16 minutes and did enough in the second half to keep the Jaguars (5-3) at a distance.

Anya Challinger came off the bench to lead South with 13 points while Nicole De Jesus had 12 points, including two 3s. Lexi McGuire added three 3-pointers for nine points and Maggie Gallagher had seven points.

Rileigh Finneran had nine of her 13 points in the second half to lead Windham and Madelyn Begley added 11 points, including three 3s, all in the third quarter.

After the Jaguars scored the first points of the game, the Panthers answered with 13 straight to take control of the game. A basket by De Jesus just before the buzzer gave South a 15-5 lead at the end of one, and the lead wouldn’t drop below 10 points the rest of the game.
