Around the Granite State: Nashua South girls basketball outlasts Pinkerton (video)
Here are results from Tuesday night’s high school girls basketball action.
DERRY – Nicole De Jesus scored a game-high 19 points Tuesday night to help lead the Nashua High School South girls basketball team to a 58-53 overtime win against Pinkerton Academy.
Lexi McGuire hit three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points and Hailey Cote added nine points as the Panthers (2-0) beat the Astros for the first time since Jan. 25, 2008, snapping an 18-game losing streak against Pinkerton.
Brooke Benz had 13 points for the Astros (1-1) while Madison Leccese and Taya Brown each had 11 points and Cara Mahn recorded 10 points, including two 3s.
South led by as many as eight points in the first quarter, but Pinkerton came back to a take a 25-24 lead into halftime. The Astros extended the lead to 33-27, their largest of the night, on a basket by Benz with 5:08 left in the third.
De Jesus answered for South with two of her 10 points in the quarter, as she led the Panthers on a 16-4 run to close out the frame with a 43-37 lead. Pinkerton opened the fourth with an 8-0 run to go up 45-43 and still led by two, 50-48, with 8.2 seconds left.
Maggie Gallagher and De Jesus each made one of two free throws in the final eight seconds to force overtime, and baskets by Nitzann Alkalay and Cote helped South pull away in overtime for the win.
Goffstown 53, Alvirne 41
Reece Still scored 24 points to help lead the Grizzlies to the win over the Broncos.
Reilly Cox and Addyson Glejzer added nine points apiece for Goffstown, while Alvirne got 13 points from Julia Adams.
Bow 47, Souhegan 34
The Falcons outscored the Sabers 13-2 in the third quarter to pull away for the win.
Peyton Vaughn had 19 points to lead Bow, as she went 8 of 14 at the free throw line, and Lauren Langley added 12 points.
Zofia Rosenfield led Souhegan with 16 points while Brynn Siska had nine points and eight rebounds.
Oyster River 48, John Stark 10
Wren Horn and Payton Drapeau each had 10 points to lead the Bobcats past the Generals.
Ashling Ferris and Kendall Strong added seven points apiece wile Eva Bebbington and Avery Biggwither each had five points for Oyster River. Jazzy Alvarez chipped in with four points.
Londonderry 64, Exeter 38
Jessica Melick had 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Blue Hawks but it wasn’t enough against the Lancers.
Lexy Rogers added 14 points and six rebounds and Emme Kayes had six rebounds and three assists for Exeter.
