Around the Granite State: Oyster River girls basketball rolls to win over Hollis Brookline
Here are results from Friday night’s high school basketball action.
Ashling Ferris scored 15 points as the Oyster River High School girls basketball team opened with a 43-27 win Friday night over Hollis Brookline.
Wren Horne added 10 points for the Bobcats while Jazzy Alvarez and Payton Drapeau had seven points apiece. Avery Biggwither and Hayden Macneil also played well, as Oyster River held HB to just 10 points in the second half.
Souhegan 57, Laconia 34
Zofia Rosenfield had 19 points and five steals to help lead the Sabers to a win over the Sachems.
Julia Skelton added 10 points and six rebounds for Souhegan and Mariellah Dart had nine points, five steals and five assists in her first varsity game. Brynn Siska and Nayaa Dinesh-Kumar each added seven points in the win.
Kailin Allen led Laconia with eight points.
Pinkerton 56, Nashua North 37
The Astros opened the season with a road win over the Titans.
Brooke Benz led Pinkerton with 18 points while Taya Brown recorded 17 points. Pinkerton pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring North 21-10 over the final eight minutes.
Timberlane 53, Spaulding 22
Sam Mooney had 21 points to help lead the Owls to a season-opening win over the Red Raiders.
Mooney had two 3-pointers while Rylee Donahue added 19 points as Timberlane led 38-6 at halftime.
Salem 51, Exeter 38
Makayla Burns, Nicole Ringdahl and Morgann Raskow each had 11 points to help lead the Blue Devils to a win over the Blue Hawks.
Jessica Melick led Exeter with 16 points and nine rebounds while Lexy Rogers had five points and four assists and May Atlee grabbed seven rebounds.
Alvirne 56, Manchester Memorial 35
The Crusaders fell on the road to the Broncos to open the season.
Kiana Gallego led Memorial with nine points while Taylor Angerami scored seven points and Avery Jenkins had five markers for the Crusaders.
Boys Basketball
Nashua South 48, Goffstown 41
The Panthers were able to hold off the Grizzlies down the stretch to pick up a win at home to open the season.
Shane Lemire had 15 points to lead South while Daniel Karavanic had 14 points. Tyler Dionne led Goffstown with 12 points.
Newfound 69, Prospect Mountain 36
The Bears picked up the win over the Timberwolves behind 20 points from Connor Hemingway. Heath Dunne scored 11 points for Prospect Mountain.
Belmont 76, Berlin 7
The Red Raiders opened their D3 title defense with a thumping of the Mountaineers, with freshman Evan Martinez scored 20 points to lead the way.
Brody Ennis added 15 points for Belmont while Owen Viar had 12 and Wyatt Carroll recorded 10.
St. Thomas 59, Winnisquam 40
The Saints picked up a road win over the Bears, getting 32 points and seven steals from Grant Baker.
Ryan Allard added nine points and six assists for St. Thomas.
