Around the Granite State: Pelham girls basketball gets OT win over Hollis Brookline (video)
Here are results from Tuesday night’s high school basketball action.
PELHAM – Sophia Guinazzo scored a game-high 22 points to help the Pelham High School girls basketball team survive Tuesday night in a 58-53 overtime win against Hollis Brookline.
Grace Riley scored all of her 12 points in the second half and Addison Breault had six of her seven points in overtime as the Pythons (2-0 in Division II) appeared to have won – and lost – the game a handful of times.
Ana O’Donnell led HB (1-1) with 13 points and Samantha Disco had 12 points before leaving early in the fourth quarter with an apparent ankle injury. Anika Carlson had nine points before fouling out with 2:50 left in regulation.
Pelham led throughout until HB went on a 13-2 run to open the final frame and take a 44-41 lead with 3:07 remaining. The Pythons appeared to retake control of the game with a 7-0 run to go up 48-44 with 1:15 left, but a basket by Olivia Langfield made it a two-point game with 1:04 remaining.
After an empty possession by Pelham, Emily Tebbetts scored for the Cavaliers to tie the game with under a minute to go. Tebbetts came up with a steal as the Pythons tried to come back down the floor, but her 3-point attempt was off the mark to give the ball back to Pelham.
HB had a chance to win at the buzzer, as a shot by Ysabel Ramas banked in, but was too late, sending the game to OT. Pelham took a 51-48 lead early in the extra session, but Ramas hit a 3 to tie it with 2:35 to go.
Breault broke the tie moments later with two free throws and the Pythons, despite a rough night at the free throw line, went 7 of 10 down the stretch to put the game away. Pelham was 14 of 36 at the line on the night while HB shot 11 of 25.
