Around the Granite State: Pinkerton girls basketball opens with win over Alvirne
HUDSON – Elizabeth Lavoie had 24 points as the Pinkerton Academy girls basketball team overcame a slow start Friday night to beat Alvirne 52-39 in the Astros’ Division I opener.
HUDSON – Elizabeth Lavoie had 24 points as the Pinkerton Academy girls basketball team overcame a slow start Friday night to beat Alvirne 52-39 in the Astros’ Division I opener.
Lavoie scored 15 of her points in the second half and finished with nine steals. Kaylee Dupuis and Sydney Gerossie each added seven points and Brooke Benz had six for Pinkerton (1-0).
The Broncos led 10-5 midway through the first quarter, but the Astros went on a 7-0 run to take a 12-10 lead into the second. Pinkerton outscored Alvirne 13-5 in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead into halftime.
Alvirne (0-2) got eight points from Julia Adams, all in the first quarter, as she battled foul trouble all night. Rachel Allard added seven points and Courtney Anderson chipped in with six for the Broncos.
Bedford 71, Manchester Memorial 22
Lyla Stein scored 22 points to lead the Bulldogs (2-0) to a win over the Crusaders (0-2).
Lana McCarthy was also in double figures with 12 points while Kate Allard and Sarah Muir each had 10 points. Annie Zink chipped in with nine points for Bedford.
Memorial got 9 points and three rebounds from Torle Adumene while NyAsia McKelvey recorded six points.
John Stark 56, Souhegan 22
Eleanor Girardet recorded 18 points to help lead the Generals (1-1) to the win over the Sabers.
Milford 52, Sanborn 33
The Spartans (2-0) got 21 points from Shea Hansen in a win over the Indians.
Hansen shot 4 of 9 from behind the 3-point line and had five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Avery Fuller added a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds along with five blocks and two steals.
Ellianna Nassy had seven points, seven rebounds and seven steals for Milford and LuLu Maguire added five assists and four steals.
Boys Basketball
John Stark 64, Souhegan 52
The Generals got the road win over the Sabers behind 27 points from Logan Montgomery.
Montgomery also had eight steals while Hayden Pond added 13 points and Aiden Harris chipped in with 11.
