HUDSON – The Portsmouth High School girls basketball team held Alvirne to just seven points over the second and third quarters Thursday on the way to a 42-33 win in a Division I game.

The Clippers (4-2) held a 17-2 advantage on the scoreboard in the second quarter and held the Broncos (3-3) without a field goal for more than 12 minutes.

Bridget Emery scored 12 points to lead Portsmouth and Maggie Pataki was also in double figures with 11 points. Syd Pettis added nine points as the Clippers did just enough down the stretch to hang on for the win.

Alvirne got 16 points from Courtney Anderson while Ella Hartson had eight points, including two 3-pointers, one of which was a buzzer-beater from halfcourt to end the first quarter. Alexis Floyd had five points for the Broncos.

Bishop Guertin 59, Spaulding 25

Laura Marino hit four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points to lead the Cardinals to a road win over the Red Raiders.

Holly Dufoe added 11 points, with three 3s, as Bishop Guertin hit nine 3-pointers as a team. Maggie Gallagher also had six points in the win.

Meagan Uraskevich led Spaulding with eight points while Sydney Daly added seven points and Ava Damon recorded six markers.

Pinkerton boys take 3rd, girls 7th

The Astros teams competed in a giant slalom race at Pat’s Peak in Henniker on Thursday. The boys came in third behind Bedford and Portsmouth, respectively; the girls were seventh while Bedford, Portsmouth and Londonderry took the top three spots in order.

Jonas Welch was the top finisher for the boys, coming 13th overall at 54.47, while Ryan Hall was 19th in 59.27. Parker Kingsley was 23rd (1:00.26) and Connor Kingsley was 26th (1:00.96) while Nick Zagaria came in 60th (1:28.49) to round out the Astros’ top five.

For the girls, Sydney Gonsalves was the top finisher, taking 26th in 1:07.49, while Naomi Tracey finished 27th in 1:09.25. Catherine Terrile came in 32nd (1:14.07), while Gabrielle Holt and Emersen Lewis both competed but didn’t finish for Pinkerton.
