DERRY – Morgan Ruhnke had a big opening day Monday to help lead Portsmouth High School to a 11-9 win over Pinkerton Academy.
Ruhnke had five goals and an assist for the Clippers (1-0, No. 1 in the NHHSSports Coaches Poll) and Annie Parker had three goals. The pair also combined on the draw to help Portsmouth win 16 of 22.
Emery Lawton added two goals and an assist and Ginger Vinciguerra had a goal and an assist. Sage Bussiere finished with six saves.
Pinkerton (0-1, No. 4) got three goals and three assists from Hannah Lisauskas while Hailey Schnider added three goals. Delaney Summer, Piper Knowlton and Natalie Paradzick each had a goal.
Sara DiClemente made 10 saves for the Astros and Paige Fenner had two.
Derryfield 16, Plymouth 3
Lilly Handwerk scored four goals, including the 100th of her career, to help the Cougars open the year with a win over the Bobcats.
Handwerk also had two assists while Chloe Brember had four goals, two assists and six draw controls. Alex Benson added three goals and had two draw controls and Maddy Paolino had two goals, two assists and two draw controls.
Courtney Wold had a goal and two assists while Teagan Peabody and Mia Chen had a goal apiece. Ariel Berger added an assist while Bri Murray had five draw controls and Lily Kfoury made seven saves.
St. Thomas 20, Pelham 4
Megan Leahy and Charlotte De Tolla combined for more than half the Saints’ goals in a season-opening win over the Pythons.
Leahy and De Tolla each had six goals and an assist and Reece Anderson had two goals and two assists. Kensley Harris, Kat Dornan and Lizzy Holden each had two goals and an assist.
Cat Vetter had five assists and Annita Parmelee had one while Brea Barker finished with five saves on her first varsity start. Julianna Grella, Chloe Baker and Grace Talbot played well for St. Thomas, which finished with 16 groundballs.
Manchester Memorial-West 15, Keene-Monadnock 14
Ashlyn Comerford and Ivy Keating each had four goals and three assists, but it wasn’t enough for the Blackbirds in the opener against the Crusaders.
Lucy Timmer also had four goals for Keene-Monadnock while Harper Zalaski had two goals and two assists.
Boys Lacrosse
No. 7 Timberlane 17, Nashua North 3
The Owls opened the regular season with a big win over the Titans on the road.
Landon Petry led the way with four goals and an assist for Timberlane while Jack Condon and Michael Savage each had three goals and an assist. Austin Charest had two goals and three assists and Rocco Psareas scored twice.
Spencer Munson, Colby Gerry and Gary Shivell had a goal apiece while Bryce Carty (three saves), Joseph Hughes (one) and Rayan Bazidane (two) combined on the win in goal.
For North, Alec Jenkerson scored twice and Nick Wilkinson also had a goal. Jace Colon made four saves and Josh Parsons had five.
