Around the Granite State: Salem field hockey holds off Merrimack (video)
Here are results from Wednesday’s high school sports action.
MERRIMACK – Kenzie Marino scored her first varsity goal in the second quarter Wednesday and the Salem High School field hockey team held off Merrimack for a 1-0 win.
Piper Dezan recorded an assist on the goal, which came off a penalty corner, one of only three on the day for the Blue Devils (5-2). Nathalia Garcia finished with six saves for Salem, which successfully defended eight corners for the Tomahawks (2-5-1).
Annabelle Cassetty made three saves for Merrimack.

Windham 2, Concord 0
The Jaguars scored on a pair of penalty corners to pick up the win over the Crimson Tide.
Kendall Salvador and Emme Mulrenan had a goal apiece for Windham (2-6) while Ella Wilkins had an assist. Rowan Bomba, Ella Gallinelli, Emma Adamske, Abbie Petrini and Jaidyn Seitzer also a played well in the win.
No. 2 Keene 4, Portsmouth 0
Lola Ballaro and Lilly Vitters each scored their first varsity goals to help lead the Blackbirds past the Clippers.
Scarlett Miller and McKenna Nelson added a goal and an assist apiece for Keene (6-1, No. 2 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll) while Olive Thatcher and Vitters also had an assist each. Dayna English made one save for her third shutout of the season.
Bishop Guertin 4, Nashua South 2
After a scoreless first half, the Panthers led 2-1 in the third quarter, but couldn’t hang on against the Cardinals.
Keegan Dolan and Isabelle Picanco each had a goal for South (1-6) and Brooke Berger added an assist.
Lily Hurd made seven saves for the Panthers while Wylie Hart, Meenu Dwaraka, Emme Christian and Molly Mullaney played well.
No. 9 Timberlane 1, Goffstown 0
The Owls controlled play, but couldn’t find many openings in the Grizzlies’ defense.
Izzy Chartier scored the game’s only goal, the first of her high school career, while Brook Salafia had an assist for Timberlane (6-2). Austin Peter recorded five saves in the win.
Stevens 5, Monadnock 0
The game was scoreless at halftime before the Cardinals opened it up in the second for a win over the Huskies.
Makayla Hardwood had 16 saves for Monadnock (2-3), as Stevens had 15 corners and a penalty stroke. Monadnock finished with three corners.
No. 8 Winnacunnet 2, No. 5 Dover 1
Hannah Deroy scored the lone goal for the Green Wave as they fell to the Warriors.
Scarlett Gray made 11 saves for Dover (5-3).
Hanover 1, Hollis Brookline 0
Emma Richardson scored the game’s only goal in the second quarter and the Bears held off the Cavaliers to get the road win.
Anna Farrell had an assist on the goal for Hanover (3-3) and Harper Rogers-Regenthal recorded five saves. The Bears also finished with five penalty corners.
No. 3 Pinkerton 10, Nashua North 0
Meg Shea scored six goals to lead the Astros to a win over the Titans.
Ayvree Hamilton added a goal and an assist and Jada Vasquez had two assists for Pinkerton (6-1). Fran Doyle, Cayden Madeiros and Brynn McKenna also scored and Ashley Clouthier had an assist in the win.
Molly Kuncik made one save and Cora Udina played well defensively for the Astros.
Girls Volleyball
Hollis Brookline 3, Keene 1
The Cavaliers battled back from an opening-set loss to beat the Blackbirds. Game scores were 24-26, 25-18, 25-23 and 25-21.
Hershey Vedula had nine kills, four aces and one block and Shelby Klassens had 11 kills and two blocks. Sam Burke added seven kills, one ace and one block while Harper Sarris had 19 assists and three aces and Dami Holman had nine digs.
