Around the Granite State: Souhegan, Exeter girls lacrosse suspended by lightning (video)

AMHERST – The Souhegan High School girls lacrosse team broke open a tie game with six unanswered goals in the third quarter before Tuesday’s game against Exeter was suspended with just over seven mintues remaining.

Lanai Hickman had five goals and an assist for the Sabers (No. 2 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll), who led 11-4 when the game was haulted due to lightning.

Libby Kennedy added three goals for Souhegan and Izzy Stevenson had a goal and two assists while Abbey Gray and Emmie Curran had a goal apiece.

Molly Benson recorded seven saves while Eva Stiles, Marley Bacon, Sophie Jacobs and Maddy Behn played well defensively.

Riley Benevides had two goals for Exeter (1-0, No. 5) while Grace McIlroy and Avery Carrigan each had a goal. Addy Gwinn recorded an assist and Molly Byrne had eight saves.

No. 10 Merrimack 11, Hanover 8

Riley Taylor had six goals to help the Tomahawks get a win over the Bears.

Jackie Hayes added two goals and four assists for Merrimack (1-0), which had a 9-7 lead with five minutes remaining when played was delayed almost an hour due to weather.

Ava Woods also had two goals while Liv Dine scored a goal and Liv Mitchell had an assist. Taylor finished with eight draw controls and three groundballs while Hayes also had three groundballs.

Sophia Richard made 17 saves in the win.

Timberlane 18, Merrimack Valley 13

Rylee Donahue did a little bit of everything to help lead the Owls to a win over the Pride.

Donahue, playing for the first time since an injury kept her out all of last season, scored seven goals and had three assists to go with 11 draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Lila Fitzgerald, who also missed last season due to injury, added three goals and an assist while Julia Johnson scored twice, had an assist and got two draw controls and caused two turnovers.

Ava Paul added two goals while Aubrey Fitzgerald and Mia Morrier had an assist apiece. Kayla Apitz finished with 11 saves.

Boys Lacrosse

No. 9 Merrimack 11, Hollis Brookline 2

Shea Scott scored four goals to help the Tomahawks picked up their second win in as many days, this time beating the Cavaliers on the road.

Cayden Dine added two goals and three assists and Josh Kahn scored twice and had an assist. Gabe Gorman had a goal and two assists and Gavin Hickey also scored while Ben Sorensen scored his first varsity goal.

Austin Kovaliv added two assists and Mason Tremblay had 10 saves.

Mike O’Hearn had both goals for HB while Levi Mitchell had 11 saves. Rowen Feightner and Dillon Kinney played well defensively.

Dover 23, Spaulding 4

Logan Carter had seven goals and three assists for the Green Wave, as they cruised past the Red Raiders.

Porter Gray added for goals and an assist and Parker Ketcham had thre goals and three assists. Cooper Ketcham scored two goals to go with six assists while Geffin Adoiran had two goals and an assist and Sylas Brown also scored.

Hector Martinez, Danny Tollend, Bryson Glidden and Finn Joyce (one assist) each scored their first varsity goal. Martinez and Owen Wood combined to win 25 faceoffs.

No. 3 Bedford 20, Thornton Academy 8

Bennett Matthews had three goals and five assists, becoming the Bulldogs’ all-time leading scorer, as they rolled to a road win over the Trojans of Sacco, Maine.

Brycen D’Urso added five goals and two assists and Savo Ftorek also scored five times while Dax Bekar had three goals and three assists. Drew Paskalis (two assists), Jacoby DeJesus (one) and T, Dylan Riccio and Camden Santos also had a goal apiece.

Cobe Rubin had two assists and Trevor Abendroth had one while Ethan Conn finished with 10 saves and Riccio was 22 of 28 on faceoffs.
