Around the Granite State: Souhegan girls basketball holds off Milford
Here are results from Tuesday night’s high school sports action.
The Souhegan High School girls basketball held on in the fourth quarter for a 40-38 win over Milford on Tuesday night.
Brynn Siska had a double double, with 10 points and 10 rebounds, to lead the Sabers (5-2 in Division II) while Nayaa Dineshkumar had nine points and 12 rebounds and Abby Mayo recorded nine points.
Shea Hanson led the Spartans (2-2) with 13 points and Lexi Bousha had five of her nine points in the fourth quarter. Milford shot just 13 of 34 from the free throw line on the night.
Timberlane 56, Keene 51
The Owls picked up their third win in a row, beating the Blackbirds at home.
Rylee Donahue had 27 points, going 11 of 14 from the free throw line, to lead Timberlane (5-3 in D1) and Sam Mooney had 24 points for the Owls, who led 25-13 at halftime.
Keene (4-2) got 22 points from Harper Zaleski while Payton Margaitis recorded nine points.
Merrimack Valley 70, Oyster River 49
The Bobcats hung with the undefeated Pride (6-0 in D2) for three quarters but Merrimack Valley pulled away for the win in the fourth quarter.
Ashling Ferris led the way for Oyster River (5-2) with 14 points while Payton Drapeau had 10 markers. Jazzy Alvarez added eight points and Wren Horne recorded seven.
Bishop Guertin 45, Pinkerton 40
The Astros led by one heading into the fourth quarter but the Cardinals were able to come back for the win.
Brooke Benz led Pinkerton with 16 points while Cara Mahn added seven points and Julia Caruso had six markers.
Manchester Memorial 41, Concord 12
The Crusaders grabbed their first D1 win of the season by beating the Crimson Tide.
Jenavyzia Collazo scored 23 points to lead Memorial (1-6) while Jaelyn Hartford recorded 12 points and Violet McCaffrey had four markers.
Julia Barnes led Concord with five points.
Concord Christian 50, Salem 26
The Blue Devils trailed by nine heading into the fourth quarter before being handed their first loss of the season by the Kingsmen.
Morgann Raskow had 12 points and four steals to lead Salem while Makayla Burns added eight points and eight rebounds. Shae O’Loughlin had six points and Liv DeFrancesco had nine rebounds.
Swimming
Keene boys, girls each finish 2nd
The Blackbirds took home second at a six-team meet on Monday, with the boys recording 259 points and the girls getting 171 points. The Nashua South boys and girls both finished first, while Fall Mountain, Monadnock and ConVal also competed at the meet.
Andrew O’Donnell led the Keene boys by finishing first in the 500 freestyle and the 200 IM while Conrad Smith took home first in the 50 freestyle and was second in the 500 freestyle.
Sully Murray came in first in the 100 butterfly and was third in the 200 freestyle and Dominic Smith was second in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. The quartet also led the 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams to a first-place finish.
The Keene girls were led by Andreea Rusu, who finished second in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 50 freestyle. Rusu, Olivia Cutler, Julia Grant and Isabella Mitchell teamed up to finish second in the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relays.
Monadnock’s Emma Short came in first in both the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke while teammate Sawyer Condap was second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 100 freestyle.
Fall Mountain’s Avery Richardson took first place in the 500 freestyle and finished second in the 50 freestyle while ConVal’s Bryanna Mattson was first in the 200 IM and third in the 50 freestyle.
