Around the Granite State: Timberlane girls basketball holds off Merrimack
Here are results from Monday’s high school sports action.
Rylee Donahue and Sam Mooney each had 15 points Monday night to help lead the Timberlane Regional High School girls basketball team to a 32-30 win over Merrimack.
Lila Fitzgerald played well on the glass for the Owls (2-0), who led 23-19 at halftime. Merrimack got 14 points from Meg McCarthy.
Bedford 72, Nashua North 38
The Bulldogs got out to a 29-3 lead over the Titans in the first quarter and rolled to the win in their season opener.
Eva Zink, Juliet Laws (two 3-pointers) and Mel McCarthy each had 15 points to lead Bedford while Sarah Muir was also in double figures with 10 points and Grace Wolf also had seven points.
Angie King led North with 12 points on four 3-pointers while Lily Small had nine points and Evelyn Hebert chipped in with seven.
Keene 55, Manchester Memorial 35
Harper Zalaski scored 31 points to lead the Blackbirds past the Crusaders.
Payton Margaitis and Izzy Payne added five points apiece for Keene while Isabell Brown had four points.
Memorial got 17 points from Avery Jenkins while Jaelyn Hartford recorded five points and Taelyn Gould-Poulin and Jenavyzia Collazo each had four markers.
Salem 37, Spaulding 24
Morgann Raskow scored 11 points to lead the Blue Devils to the win over the Red Raiders.
Shae O’Laughlin and Ali Marshall each had eight points for Salem.
Gymnastics
Keene takes second
The Blackbirds opened the season with a second-place finish in a three-team meet, recording a scored of 124.1 to come in behind Goffstown (125.9) and ahead of Timberlane (107.4). Coe-Brown, Oyster River, Derryfield and John Stark also had individuals competing.
Olivia Adams took third in the all-around with a score of 33.3 for Keene, as the sophomore was first on the vault (9.3) and the uneven bars (8.5). Erin French was 12th in the all-around, with her top finish a tie for second on the vault (8.7).
Boys Basketball
Belmont 57, Gilford 47
Evan Martinez had 14 points and Brody Ennis added 13 points to lead the Red Raiders to the win over the Golden Eagles.
Mark Uicker had 17 points for Gilford while Owen Hawkins had 14 points and Henry Sleeper recorded 13.
Windham 40, Winnacunnet 38
Sam Roidoulis hit the game-winning shot with 1.2 seconds remaining to give the Jaguars the home victory over the Warriors.
Tyler Jordan led Windham with 10 points and Brandon Jacobs had six blocks.
Portsmouth 81, Bishop Guertin 54
Isaiah Reis had 22 points, including the 1,000th of his high school career, to help the Clippers past the Cardinals.
Derek Swartz and Ryan Swartz each added 14 points for Portsmouth (2-0), while Connor McGowan led Bishop Guertin (1-1) with 30 points.
Boys Hockey
Keene 4, Hanover 2
Four players scored and Nick Fortier made 22 saves for the Blackbirds as they knocked off the Bears.
Nick Dunnell and Ethan Ahnert each had a goal and an assist for Keene while Griffin Erickson and Jack Quarry added a goal apiece. Zade Trybulski, Alex Fortier, Jude VanderHooven and Andrew Robichaud each chipped in with an assist.
