Bedford falls in first game of ALWS

The Bedford Post 54 baseball team dropped its opening game of the American Legion World Series, falling 12-1 to Gaffney (S.C.) Post 109 Friday night and Saturday morning in Shelby, N.C.

The game didn’t begin until just before 10:30 p.m. and ended around 12:30 a.m. The loss snapped Bedford’s six-game winning streak, and was just the team’s second in 11 tournament games.

Post 54 starter Lucas Olen battled through six innings after getting hit in the leg with a line drive in the second inning. Zach Husband had two of Bedford’s four hits.
