The Bedford High School girls lacrosse team got a big win last week and now has a new spot in the NHHSSports Coaches Poll.
After beating Portsmouth, 14-10, last Wednesday, the Bulldogs traded places with the Clippers in the top 10, moving up to No. 1 for the first time this season. Bedford is now the third team, along with Portsmouth and Bishop Guertin, to hold that spot this season.
The rest of the poll stayed mostly the same for the second week in a row.
The Bulldogs will put their No. 1 ranking on the line with games on Monday at Salem and on Wednesday at Central Catholic, of Lawrence, Mass. Meanwhile, the Clippers will host Exeter on Monday and Bow on Wednesday before traveling to face Nashua South on Friday.
Bishop Guertin received all of the third-place votes again this week to keep that spot. The Cardinals host Londonderry on Monday night and Notre Dame Academy, from Hingham, Mass., on Wednesday before going to Concord on Friday. Nashua South kept a hold on the No. 4 spot, and the Panthers will play at Souhegan on Monday before hosting Derryfield on Wednesday and Portsmouth on Friday.
Dover moved up a spot to No. 5, trading places with Bow and moving into the top five for the first time. The Green Wave have won eight in a row and will host Timberlane on Wednesday and Pinkerton on Friday. Bow comes in at No. 6 having won three home games last week, each by a score of 19-0. The Falcons will now go on the road for three, starting Monday at Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough before heading Portsmouth on Wednesday and Concord Christian on Friday.
The bottom four teams all remained the same in this week’s poll, with Souhegan sitting at No. 7 and Pinkerton at No. 8. The Sabers host South on Monday and then go to Merrimack on Wednesday, while the Astros host Concord on Monday and Hanover on Wednesday before going to Dover on Friday.
Windham kept the No. 9 spot, despite dropping its first two games of the year. The Jaguars will look to stop that two-game skid Monday when they go to ConVal, while they’ll also host John Stark/Hillsboro-Deering on Wednesday. Hanover, which is the lone unbeaten team in Division II, stayed at No. 10 and will host Manchester Central on Monday before traveling to Pinkerton on Wednesday.
