Bedford solidifies hold on No. 1 spot in New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Field Hockey Coaches Poll

The Bedford High School field hockey team started the regular season strong and that was enough for the Bulldogs to tighten their grip on the top spot in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll.

Bedford received 11 first-place votes, more than double from the preseason poll, to finish ahead of Keene. The Blackbirds garnered three first-place votes to jump up four spots from No. 6.

Dover came in third, climbing one spot from the previous poll, while Pinkerton dropped two places to No. 4. Winnacunnet rounded out the top five for the second poll in a row while Exeter came in at No. 6, a drop of three spots.

Souhegan, the top Division II team in the poll, moved up two places to No. 7 while Londonderry also rose two spots to No. 8. Hollis Brookline traded places with the Sabers while Oyster River moved into the poll for the first time this year, coming in at No. 10, while Bishop Guertin dropped out.

Here is the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Field Hockey Coaches Poll for this week. These are the top 10 field hockey teams in the state, with record, first-place votes/points (T=tie) and last week’s ranking.

  2. Keene (2-0), 3/128, 6th
  3. Dover (3-0), 88, 4th
  4. Pinkerton (2-1), 84, 2nd
  5. Winnacunnet (2-0-1), 52, 5th
  6. Exeter (2-1), 48, 3rd
  7. Souhegan (2-0), 43, 9th
  8. Londonderry (2-0), 40, 10th
  9. Hollis Brookline (2-0), 37, 7th
  10. Oyster River (3-0), 29, NR

Dropped Out: Bishop Guertin.

Others receiving votes: Salem (2-0), 27; Bishop Guertin (2-1), 19, 8th; John Stark (3-0), 18; Bow (3-0), 7; Gilford (3-0), 5; Timberlane (2-1), 3; Concord (2-1), 2; Windham (0-3), 2; Merrimack (0-2-1), 1; Portsmouth (0-3), 1.

The coaches poll is voted on by field hockey coaches from around the state and members of the media. The poll will be updated every Monday throughout the regular season.
