The Bedford High School football team goes into Friday night’s season opener as the two-time defending Division I champions.

The Bulldogs also lay claim to being the top team in the first NHHSSports Football Coaches Poll.

The defending champs open up the 2024 season on the road, as the Bulldogs take on Nashua North, which came in at No. 6, on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at Stellos Stadium. Londonderry took the No. 2 spot and will also open on the road against Salem, which finished fourth in the opening poll. That game will kick off at 7 p.m. in Haverhill, Mass.

Pinkerton was the No. 3 team in the poll and will start the year by playing an out-of-division game at Andover, Mass., Friday at 7 p.m. Exeter rounded out the top five and the Blue Hawks open the season on the road against Dover at 7 p.m. Friday.

Plymouth opens the D2 season by hosting Milford at 1 p.m. on Saturday, while Alvirne, which came in at No. 8, goes on the road to play Manchester Central at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Pelham, the No. 9 team in the poll, puts its 41-game win streak on the line to start the year at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bow.
