Bishop Guertin boys lacrosse out to keep making history in deep D1

There are quite a few streaks the Bishop Guertin High School boys lacrosse team can extend this season.

There’s the run of consecutive Division I title-game appearances, which reached 20 last season, and the number of championships in a row, which reached five, tying the record the Cardinals set from 2010-14.

And then there’s the in-state win streak, which sits at 79 going into the 2026 season.

Bishop Guertin’s last loss to a team from New Hampshire was to Pinkerton in the 2019 championship game, which means the last time the Cardinals lost to a Granite State opponent, most of us had never used the term “self-isolation” in a real sentence.

The list of teams with a chance to hand Bishop Guertin that loss remains the same, as Pinkerton, Bedford and Exeter – last year’s other semifinalists – all return solid rosters. But a few other teams could step up and make some noise in the division as well, as Londonderry, Concord, Merrimack and Dover look to improve on the success they had last season.

Favorite

Bishop Guertin (16-5 in 2025, D1 champion): The Cardinals return starters at almost every position as they look to win their sixth title in a row and 15th overall, both of which would extend state records.

Seniors Camden Hayden (midfield/attack), Owen King (attack), Sean McGary (attack) and Hudson Schmitt (midfield) return to starting roles for the Bishop Guertin offense. Defensive starters Tyler McLeod (LSM), JP Dunsmoor (SSDM), Hunter Duany (SSDM) and goalie Jonah Feliciano, all seniors, and juniors Andre Steinbrueck and Elijah Zeeman are all back.

Drew Redfern (senior) and Jack Redfern (sophomore) return at midfield while senior LSM Gabe Cini and sophomores Tom Clancy, Kevin Salafia and Finn Murphy are back on defense. Freshmen Isaac Stutz (attack) and Nate Barry (defense) could see time on varsity while Samspon San (senior), James Ellia (junior), Dom Stamp (sophomore) and freshmen Hugh Roark and Will Osborn will be in the mix on faceoffs.

Challengers

Pinkerton (16-5, lost in final): The Astros have played in two of the last three title games and have the experience and depth returning to make it back again.

Defense will be Pinkerton’s strength, with senior Brendan Carney and juniors Brady Blaszka and Nate Smith returning to lead the way. Also back at goalie are junior Owen Perkins and senior Gavin Burwell, who stepped in as the starter after Perkins went down with an injury.

Other returners on defense with varsity experience include seniors James Caruso, Spencer Chalmers, Caleb Hobden, Zach Kelley (LSM), Connor Hathaway and Justin Howell (SSDM).

Senior Dylan Stingel and sophomore Tyler Pinardi return to handle faceoffs and contribute at midfield while junior Jackson Farrell is also back. They’ll be joined by senior Tyler Barry and junior Jack Ford at midfield. Senior Matt Gormady and sophomore Levi Weaver will lead the Pinkerton attack.

Bedford (14-6, lost in semifinals): After reaching the D1 final for the first time in 2024, the Bulldogs followed it up with a final four appearance, but saw their season ended again by the Cardinals.

Bedford will be led by senior middie Bennett Matthews, but will be without senior Brody Helton for most of the season due to a football injury. Also back on offense for the Bulldogs are juniors John Purnell (attack) and Brycen D’Urso (midfield) while junior Dylan Riccio is back at midfield and will handle faceoffs.

The defense will be led by returning starters Ethan Conn (senior goalie), Cam Santos (junior) and Will Frongillo (junior). Senior Trevor Abendroth and junior Paul Gaudreau are also back on defense while sophomore Teddy LaPointe also returns.

Junior Savo Ftorek (attack) and freshmen Drew Clark (defense) and Dax Bekar (midfield) will all have a chance to contribute for Bedford.

Contenders

Exeter (13-7, lost in semifinals): The Blue Hawks were in the final four again for the ninth season in a row and came up just short of their third final appearance in the last five seasons.

Exeter returns a solid defense with senior Ronan Wilbur returning in goal, along with seniors Logan Schwalje and Jackson Loranger back as well.

Senior James Bernich will see time at midfield, along with sophomore Sam Gibney, while senior Patrick Hathaway and junior Alex Carrigan return at attack.

Londonderry (10-8, lost in quarterfinals): The Lancers graduated 12 seniors from a year ago and have just three returning, but have a lot of underclassmen with experience.

That starts with junior goalie Broch St. Gelais, who stepped in as the starter last season, and his backup, junior Joe Tufts. Senior Lowell Lees is back on defense along with juniors Zach Needham and Wynn Shovlin and sophomore Graeme Cunningham.

Sophomore Austin Callahan and senior Aidan Marshall also return at LSM and senior Aidan Stowell is back as a defensive middie. Sophomore Trey Campbell and Griffin Cunningham will see a lot of time as two-way middies this year.

Juniors Owen Huard and Brody Campbell return to lead the Lancers’ attack.

Merrimack (11-7, lost in quarterfinals): The Tomahawks graduated 14 seniors from a year ago, but have an experienced group returning that should help them stay in contention this season.

Leading the way on defense will be seniors Mason Tremblay (goalie) and Gavin Hickey, while junior Trevor Shorette and sophomores Logan Melendy and Seamus Hickey (goalie) are also back. Juniors Liam Newman, Wyatt Dutton and Maverick Torres and sophomore Tanner Kush will also be in the mix on defense.

Senior Cayden Dine (midfield) and Sean Anderson (attack) also return along with juniors Hudson Rousseau and Gabe Gorman, who will see time at attack and midfield. Also returning at midfield are senior Shea Buccellato and juniors Landon Leblanc and Reid Guidish while senior Josh Kahn is back on attack.

Juniors Ben Sorensen and Connor Marshall will have a chance to contribute on attack while senior Shea Scott and reshmen Jaxon Truland, Austin Kovalic and Cash Torres should see time at midfield.

Concord (8-11, lost in quarterfinals): After years of having young teams, the Crimson Tide boast a number of upperclassmen this season.

Leading the way will be senior midfielders Liam Yeatman and Rolly Gilbert while senior Brayden Beauregard also returns at attack.

The Concord defense will be led by senior goalie Harry Snow, along with seniors Noah Wyatt and Oliver Richert. Sophomore Grady Brown could also see some time in goal.

Windham (6-10): The Jaguars were a win or two away from making the postseason in their first year in D1, and with a new coach in Sawyer Gagnon, Windham looks to get there this year.

A strong group returns for the Jaguars, led by senior Josh Trudel at midfield and juniors Samuel Kramer and Evan DellOrfano at attack. They’ll be joined by sophomores Evan Ardizzone (midfield) and Cameron Terry (attack).

Seniors Nolan Lamb and Aaron Felings (SSDM) return to lead the defense, along with juniors Ethan Peluso and Nolan Dunn. Junior Jack Tanso will step in at goalie for Windham.

Dark Horse

Dover (9-11, lost in quarterfinals): The Green Wave picked up their first D1 playoff win last season and return a solid core that could help them take a big step this season.

Leading the way on offense will be senior midfielder Cooper Ketcham and senior attackman Logan Carter, and they’ll be joined by senior Porter Gray and sophomore Parker Ketcham at midfield and sophomore Sylas Brown at attack.

Junior Owen Wood returns to handle faceoffs and see time as a defensive middie while seniors Bryson Glidden, Owen McCormick and Danny Bretz (goalie) return on defense, along with junior Ethan Morin and sophomore Ryan Hebert. Junior Alex Key and sophomores Geffin Adorian and Braeden Perry will also be in the mix on defense.

Senior Liam Ronchi, sophomore Tommy O’Halloran and freshmen Cowen Kozlowski and Julian Sprague will look to contribute on defense while freshmen Danny Tolen (midfield) and Finn Joyce (attack) should also see time.

Rest of Field

Nashua South (8-11, lost in prelims): The Panthers returned to the postseason last year for the first time since 2022, but graduated 10 seniors from 2025.

Seniors Tyler Benzekri and Jacob Hovey are back to lead the defense while seniors Cody Jackson and Cole Warshafsky and junior Grant Imbeault return at midfield. Sophomore Bryce Stuart steps in at goalie.

Senior Owen Roy will look to lead the attack while sophomores Joe Kulda (midfield) and Brendan Skelley (attack) also return. Freshman Max Signoroni will also see time at attack.

Salem (5-10): The Blue Devils came up a few games short of making their first postseason appearance since 2018 last season. This year, Salem has a group returning that should make another push to end that streak.

Seniors Henry Griffin and Cam Chase return to lead the attack while senior Cole Whittaker and junior Colin Salkovitz return at midfield. Freshmen Mike Chande and Hunter Thompson will also see time at midfield.

Senior Gianni Amadeo and juniors Kaden Alsup and Jack Richard (LSM) are back to lead the defense, where they’ll be joined by freshman Tyler Partridge.

Keene-Monadnock (5-12): The Blackbirds were another team in the playoff hunt up until the final week of the regular season in 2025, and they’ll try to build on that momentum this season.

Senior Nick Fortier is back at attack for Keene-Monadnock while junior Griffin Yardley will look to lead the defense. Sophomores Grady Erickson and Myles Aldefer return at midfield while freshmen Alex Fortier, Griffin Erickson and CJ Harrington will also see time at midfield.

Manchester (3-13): The Kings have a handful of returning players while first-year coach Tommy O’Rourke takes over on the sideline.

Senior Cam Roberge returns at goalie while seniors Lucas Brown and Landon Murphy are back to lead the defense. Senior midfielders Alex Sutherland and Jackson Ulbin-Morin are back at midfield for Manchester while Jacob Schuff and Jefferson Rivera will also see time.

Junior Cade Tripp is also returning for the Kings to lead the attack.

Nashua North (1-17): The Titans graduated just three seniors from last year and have experience returning at every position.

Leading the way on offense will be senior Dylan Noble and sophomore Jared Gauthier at midfield and senior Nick Wilkinson and sophomore Nico Bottari at attack. Senior Caleb Smith and sophomore Cormac Farrington will also be looked to to contribute from the midfield.

Junior goalie Josh Parsons returns to lead the defense along with senior Aiden Louis and juniors Matthew Fisher and Tommy Dratch.

Freshmen Gavin Dungan and Rickey McKenzie will see time at midfield for North.

Postseason Prediction
