The Bishop Guertin High School boys lacrosse team will be looking to win its fifth Division I title in a row in 2025, but the Cardinals start the regular season already at the top.

For the fifth year in a row, Bishop Guertin is the top team in the preseason MerchSquared.com/NHHSSports Boys Lacrosse Coaches Poll, as the Cardinals received all 15 first-place votes to be an unanimous selection.

It’s also the 37th week in a row at No. 1 for Bishop Guertin, which will open its title defense south of the border, when the Cardinals face St. John’s Prep, of Danvers, Mass., on Tuesday at Merrimack College.

Bedford, who was the runner-up in D1 and in the final poll last year, was a unanimous choice for No. 2 in this year’s opening poll. The Bulldogs begin their season with a game at Dover on Monday, at home to Exeter on Wednesday and at Hingham (Mass.) on Saturday.

Exeter took the No. 3 spot in the poll and the Blue Hawks will go to Windham on Monday and host Concord on Friday along with the game at Bedford. Pinkerton finished just two points back to come in at No. 4, with the Astros set to host Salem on Monday before a trip to Merrimack on Thursday.

Portsmouth, the defending D2 champs, round out the top five; the Clippers will travel to Souhegan on Wednesday before hosting Hanover and Newburyport (Mass.) on Friday and Saturday.

At No. 6 is Derryfield, which will host Winnacunnet on Wednesday and then go to Goffstown on Friday, while St. Thomas comes in at No. 7. The Saints host Londonderry and Goffstown on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Winnacunnet opens the season at No. 8 and will play at Pembroke on Monday and Derryfield on Wednesday before hosting Spaulding on Friday. Londonderry took the ninth spot in the opening poll, and will open with a game at St. Thomas on Tuesday.

Merrimack finished out the top 10 and the Tomahawks start the year at Nashua North on Monday before hosting Chelmsford (Mass.) on Wednesday and Pinkerton on Thursday.
