Bishop Guertin opens as unanimous No. 1 in preseason NHHSS Boys Lacrosse Coaches Poll

New Hampshire high school lacrosse is back and that means so is the NHHSS Boys Lacrosse Coaches Poll.

Since it’s been almost two years since the final poll of 2019, here’s a refresher: every week, a handful of boys coaches from all three divisions, plus members of the New Hampshire sports media, vote on their top 10 teams in the Granite State. For each first-place vote, a team gets 10 points, second place is nine points … all the way down to one point for 10th place.

For the first poll of 2021, Bishop Guertin received all 13 first-place votes to finish in the top spot. The Cardinals have been the preseason No. 1 team three times in the four years of the poll’s existence, and they’ll open the season Tuesday against one of the teams tied for fourth in the poll, Londonderry.

Exeter narrowly took the No. 2 spot ahead of Pinkerton, the first time a team other than the Cardinals and the Astros has ever cracked the top two. The Blue Hawks begin their 2021 season Monday at Nashua South, which was picked sixth in the poll, while Pinkerton opens Tuesday against Salem, which received votes.

Derryfield finished tied with Londonderry to round out the top five, while two other Division II teams were in the top 10 – Windham, which was seventh, and Winnacunnet, which came in eighth. Souhegan and Bedford rounded out the top 10, while Hollis Brookline led seven team that also received votes.

Here is the NHHSSports Boys Lacrosse Coaches Poll for the preseason. These are the top 10 lacrosse teams in the state, with 2019 record in parentheses, first-place votes/points and final ranking in 2019 (T=tie).
