A week after splitting first-place votes, the Bishop Guertin High School boys lacrosse team has tightened its grip on the No. 1 spot in the MerchSquared.com/NHHSSports Coaches Poll.
The Cardinals picked up 13 first-place votes this week after picking up three wins in three days, while Bedford grabbed two votes for the No. 1 spot. The two teams will settle it on the field Thursday at Bedford High School.
Along with Thursday’s game, Bishop Guertin will host Concord on Tuesday and go to Westport, Conn., on Saturday to play Staples. Meanwhile, Bedford, which was No. 2 for the third straight week, hosts Windham on Monday and Westford (Mass.) on Saturday.
The rest of the top five also held its ground, with Pinkerton staying at No. 3. The Astros play at Keene-Monadnock on Monday and at Nashua South on Wednesday before hosting Longmeadow (Mass.) on Thursday and going to Hingham (Mass.) on Saturday.
Exeter narrowly held off Derryfield for the No. 4 spot. The Blue Hawks will take on Nashua North on Monday and go to Portsmouth on Friday, while the Cougars go to Souhegan on Tuesday and host Massabesic, from Waterboro, Maine, on Saturday.
Portsmouth stayed at No. 6 and will play at Londonderry on Wednesday and host Exeter on Friday. Merrimack remained at No. 7, with games against Londonderry on Monday and at Nashua South on Friday.
Winnacunnet moved up two spots to No. 8 and the Warriors are off until May 5, while Timberlane and Goffstown finished in a tie for No. 9. The Owls will host Dover on Wednesday and the Grizzlies are off until May 5.
