Campbell holds off Nashua North at Chick-fil-A basketball tournament

NASHUA – Four players scored in double figures for the Campbell High School boys basketball, as the Cougars defeated Nashua North 61-56 in a consolation game Saturday at the Chick-fil-A Holiday Tournament at Nashua South.

NASHUA – Four players scored in double figures for the Campbell High School boys basketball, as the Cougars defeated Nashua North 61-56 in a consolation game Saturday at the Chick-fil-A Holiday Tournament at Nashua South.

Nicholas Freson scored 11 points, while Max Gouveia, Jacob Morgan and Jackson Musco each had 10 points, as Campbell led by nine at halftime and held on throughout the second half.

The Titans got 15 points from Jordan Lates and Justin Carter added 12, including a 5-for-5 performance at the free throw line.

North was able to cut the Campbell lead to one early in the fourth quarter, trailing 39-38, but the Cougars answered with a 6-0 run to push their advantage back to seven points with 5:38 to play. Lates made it a two-point game 20 seconds later, making two free throws and then hitting a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 45-43.

Campbell answered again with an 8-4 run, but North cut the lead back to two on a 3 by Aaron Cordova and a free throw from Demitri Jackson. A three-point play by North’s Shea Bittle made it a 57-56 Campbell lead with 30 seconds left, but Morgan and Zachary Bergeon each made a pair of free throws in the final seconds to give the Cougars the win.
