Check out what’s new for 2017 at NH-HighSchoolSports.com
With a new school year getting underway, and just like many of the student-athletes getting ready to begin another season, there will be some changes here at NH-HighSchoolSports.com.
This school year marks the eighth fall season that I’ve covered since creating this website in January of 2010 – and 12th overall – and I’m just as excited as ever to get things going. As much as I enjoy the other sports seasons, something about fall, to me, makes it a little bit sweeter.
As the year gets going, you will notice a few things different around here, and I went to take a few moments to tell you about them. So let’s get to it.
New Membership Options
Some of you I’m sure have already noticed this, but starting at the beginning of August, the membership options changed a bit. And to those of you who have signed up for a membership since then, thank you so much for your support.
Since the move to memberships became a necessity two years ago, the only previous options had been to sign up for a monthly or yearly membership. Now, although those two options still exist, there’s a little more flexibility, with four membership choices.
- NHHS Sports Insider Fan: This option is a limited subscription that allows members access to weekly Playoff Picture updates (more on these below) and season and playoff previews. It is a monthly recurring fee and you are able to cancel at any time. Find out more about this membership option here.
- NHHS Sports Insider Weekly Pass: This option is perfect for those who want to read a couple of posts, but don’t want to make a full commitment to a membership. For one week, you get full access to the site, and your subscription ends after seven days. Find out more about this membership option here.
- NHHS Sports Insider Fanatic: This option is a monthly subscription to the site, which gives you access to everything from Playoff Pictures to previews to game stories to features and analysis. This is a monthly recurring fee and you are able to cancel at any time. Find out more about this membership option here.
- NHHS Sports Insider All-State: This option is a yearly subscription to the site, and is the best deal here, as you get the same access as a Fanatic, but at an insanely discounted price. This is a yearly recurring fee and you are able to cancel at any time. Find out more about this membership option here.
For those of you who signed up for a membership before August, your membership has not changed and you will continue to have access for as long as you choose. And thank you again to all everyone who is a member. Your support keeps this site going, and will help it continue to grow.
For those of you who haven’t signed up, I ask that you please consider doing so. Not only will you be getting access to a lot of great high school sports coverage, you’ll also be helping to ensure that this site is able to continue and expand what gets covered.
Playoff Pictures
You asked and you shall receive more updates on potential playoff standings and matchups throughout the season. Starting in mid-September, once a week, members will get updates on standings, tiebreakers and what the updated brackets for football, girls volleyball, boys and girls soccer and field hockey look like. Then, in the final week of the season (except for football), you’ll get daily updates on what the playoffs look like.
And that’s not just for the fall sports. Playoff updates will be provided throughout the winter for boys and girls basketball and boys and girls hockey, plus in the spring for boys and girls lacrosse, baseball and softball.
The Student Section
Still a work in progress, I’d like to give more of a voice to the student-athletes who are interested in writing about their experiences with sports. I’m hoping to work with the high schools in the state to find a way to not only get that writing to you, but to also use it as a way for students to earn a little experience and credit.
If you are a student interested in sharing your experiences, or if you are a teacher, administrator or coach who know a student who would, send an email to nhhighschoolsports@gmail.com.
Football Capsules
This season will mark the end of the Pigskin Prophets feature, where media members from around the state did their best to predict outcomes of a handful of games each week. In it’s place will be a capsule-sized look at all of the weekend’s football action. These will be available for all visitors to the site.
Weekly Podcast
OK, so this isn’t exactly new, since I did a podcast during football and lacrosse season in 2016-17. But this year’s format for the football podcast will be a bit different. Rather than having a revolving door of coaches joining me Tuesdays at Riverside Barbecue Company in Nashua, it will be Mike Lochman, former Souhegan head coach, and I taking about a half an hour every week to discuss the football landscape.
We will be recording the podcast on Tuesday evenings, so feel free to come on down to listen or chat with us after we’re done. All podcasts during the regular season will then be available on Wednesday mornings.
All this will all be in addition to everything else you’ve come to expect from NH-HighSchoolSports.com – game stories, features, analysis, and this year, a little more video.
This fall, I’ll also be joined by a handful of reporters at games, including Joseph Conti, who will continue to help out with football this season; Marisa Ingemi, who will handle some field hockey and football; and Alex Hall, who will add some boys and girls soccer coverage to the site. And once again, I’ll be working the football and girls volleyball beat, along with a little bit of everything else here and there.
And of course, the more people who sign up for memberships, the more sports and games we are able to get to. Please consider signing up to help us continue to provide the great high school sports coverage you deserve.
