LACONIA – Sam Frye scored seven goals to help lead the Coe-Brown Northwood Academy boys lacrosse team to a 17-11 win Thursday night over Hopkinton in the Division III semifinals at Bank of NH Stadium in Laconia.

Frye scored three goals in the second quarter to help the top-seeded Bears (16-0) answer a 5-0 run by the No. 4 Hawks (12-4) and then had two more in the third, when Coe-Brown took control of the game by outscoring Hopkinton 5-0 in the frame.

Glenn Papineau added three goals for the Bears while Joseph Fenton, Robert Lee and Charlie Frye scored two goals apiece. Myles Brackett also had a goal and Jackson Alie finished with six saves.

The Hawks got four goals from Kip Hedquist, three in the fourth quarter, while Shane Smith had three goals and Jackson Westover scored twice. Evan Gregory and Owen Buss added a goal apiece and Emmett Duquette made six saves.

Coe-Brown jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter but Hopkinton answered with four goals in 1:02 to take a 5-4 lead and then added another scored to go up 6-4 with 5:37 left in the half.

The Bears took a timeout and then scored twice in 21 seconds to tie the game at 6 and the teams went back and forth for the rest of the half.

Papineau scored 1:24 into the third quarter to break the 8-8 tie and Lee and Sam Frye added two more goals to make it 11-8 Bears with 8:04 remaining in the frame. Coe-Brown led 13-8 going into the fourth and were up by as many as seven goals in the fourth.

For the second year in a row, the Bears will play for their first D3 title, this time at 5 p.m. Saturday against Bow in Laconia.
