Concord football taking it one day at a time

MANCHESTER – Eric Brown knows something about preseason expectations.
A season ago, the Concord High School football team was expected to be one of the programs competing for a Division I title. The Crimson Tide were in the mix, but ultimately, missed out on the postseason.
This year, Brown, the Concord head coach, isn’t getting ahead of himself.
“We were 6-4 and didn’t make the playoffs last year,” Brown said. “We’re one day at a time (because) we’ve got a lot to prove. We thought we were going to be pretty good last year and we didn’t prove it against the better teams. We’ll wait and see and find out.”
But with nine starters back on offense and defense, its hard not to think the Tide will be in the mix in the new Division I. Concord is in the North Conference, along with Bedford and the three Manchester public schools – Central, West and Memorial.
Central and Bedford should join Concord in a race for the conference’s two playoff spots. The Tide will find out a lot in its first game of the season, when they face the Little Green on Saturday at Gill Stadium.
“Our team is very experienced, (but) there are a lot of question marks on how good we are,” Brown said. “They did all the necessary things we wanted them to do in the offseason and it’s hard to assess at this point.
“We’ll see where we fall. We’re doing the right things, we’ve had a great offseason and we’re just taking it one day at a time.”
