ConVal football comes up short in opening loss to Milford
The ConVal High School football team rallied from a 27-7 halftime deficit Friday but couldn’t complete the comeback, falling to Milford 41-35.
The Cougars opened the second half with two touchdowns to get within six points, and twice had the ball inside the Spartans’ 20-yard line with a chance to take the lead, but couldn’t score. The teams continued to trade touchdowns after that, and Milford recovered an onside kick with a minute left to close out the win.
Dan Spezzaferri led ConVal by going 19 for 36 passing for 337 yards and three touchdowns and he also ran for another score. Danny Parker added two touchdowns – one rushing, one receiving – and had 231 total yards. Isaac Bacon had eight catches for 144 yards and a touchdown.
The Cougars got solid defensive play from Hunter Gullage, Jake Phillips, Dan Curran and Andrew Stockwell, who had a sack. Gullage also forced and recovered a fumble.
