Crazy week leads to shakeup in bottom half of NHHSS Boys Lacrosse Coaches Poll

There is a consensus among voters of which boys lacrosse teams are the top five in New Hampshire.

The bottom five is a different story, as three teams enter this week’s poll for the first time this season. And while the top six remained the same for the fourth straight week, the gap between Nos. 5 and 6 continued to widen.

Bishop Guertin retained the No. 1 spot, also for the fourth week in a row, after wins over Reading (Mass.) and Timberlane, and the Cardinals will face two big tests this week, as they host Exeter on Monday and Boston College High on Wednesday.

Pinkerton remained at No. 2 after a win over Souhegan and a close loss against Hingham (Mass.), while Exeter was a unanimous choice at No. 3. The Blue Hawks started a stretch of four straight road games with wins over Londonderry and Concord.

Derryfield kept its hold on the No. 4 spot after extending its winning streak to 64 games and the Cougars will put that run on the line this week with games against Windham and Exeter. Londonderry wasn’t too far behind at No. 5 after picking up a pair of wins at the end of the week.

Portsmouth held on to the sixth spot despite a loss to Winnacunnet last week, while the Warriors rocketed into the poll for the first time this season. Winnacunnet, which has won eight in a row, takes over at No. 7, while another team, Hanover, makes its debut at No. 8 after having won seven of its last eight games.

Souhegan, which split two games against Pinkerton and Nashua North, dropped to No. 9 this week, while Pelham, fresh off its win over previously-undefeated Hopkinton, moves into the poll for the first time at No. 10.
