Derryfield boys lacrosse beats Hollis Brookline in rematch of championship game

MANCHESTER – The Derryfield School boys lacrosse team scored five unanswered goals to end the first quarter Wednesday and rolled to a 14-5 win over Hollis Brookline in the first meeting between the two teams as Division II opponents.

MANCHESTER – The Derryfield School boys lacrosse team scored five unanswered goals to end the first quarter Wednesday and rolled to a 14-5 win over Hollis Brookline in the first meeting between the two teams as Division II opponents.

It was also the first meeting between the teams since the teams played in the Division III championship last season; both moved up to D2 for the 2015 season. HB won the title last year, 10-9 in double overtime, spoiling the Cougars perfect season.

This time, Derryfield (1-0) outscored HB 5-0 over the final 5:35 of the first quarter to take a 7-2 lead after one. The Cougars were able to keep that cushion until the fourth quarter, when they began to pull away late.

Jimmy O’Brien led the way for Derryfield with three goals and six assists while Michael Chiasson had four goals and three assists. Peter Thompson and Drew Johnson each had two goals and a helper while Lee Sipes had a goal and an assist. Allen Mello made 15 saves in net.

HB (1-1) got two goals from Mike Buxbaum while Nick Hinchliffe and Peter Traver had a goal and an assist each. Trevor Cooke made 13 saves.
