MANCHESTER – Chris Hettler thought the defense of the Derryfield School boys lacrosse team might be key heading into Wednesday’s showdown with Dover.
The Cougars spent extra time in practice over the last week preparing ways to slow down a Green Wave offense that was averaging more than 14 goals per game this season.
Through the first 12 minutes, that extra work paid off.
While Dover controlled possession for long stretches of the first quarter, Derryfield’s defense held, and the Cougars broke open a tie game with a 5-0 run to start the second quarter on the way to a 17-5 win a matchup of two undefeated teams in Division II.
