MANCHESTER – With the number of opportunities the Derryfield School field hockey team had in the second half of Tuesday’s game against Kennett High School, it felt like only a matter of time before the Cougars did what no one else had done so far this season.
Sure enough, with just under eight minutes to play in regulation, Derryfield finally put a goal past the Eagles’ defense, the first allowed by Kennett in six-plus games this year. And it took a little more than nine minutes for the Cougars to do it again.
After getting 10 penalty corners in the second half, Derryfield got another one to start overtime and Lindsey Stagg ended the game when her shot was deflected by a Kennett defender just under the cross bar for a 2-1 win in a Division II contest.
