Derryfield girls basketball beats Central-West to win Battle For New England (video)

MANCHESTER – The Derryfield School girls basketball team took an early lead and kept Manchester Central-West at a distance long enough to take a 48-38 win Saturday in the finale of the Battle For New England Tournament.

The Cougars went 7-0 over the two-day tournament to get the victory, beating Oyster River, Maranacook (Maine) and Windham before knocking off Central-West after going 3-0 in pool play on Friday. Central-West was 1-2 in pool play before upsetting Farmington, Colebrook and North Country Union (Vt.) in bracket play.

The two-day tournament featured teams from New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont with each team playing three games in pool play on Friday before the single-elimination tournament on Saturday.
