Exeter girls track has record-setting meet to win D1 indoor championships

Lexi Paterna was a part of three first-place finishes, setting state records in two of them, to help the Exeter High School girls track team to a dominant win in the Division I indoor championship Sunday at Plymouth State University.

Paterna finished first in both the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs for the Blue Hawks, with her time of 4 minutes, 31.55 seconds in the 1,500 setting a state record, breaking the previous time of 4:36.79, set by Exeter’s Shannon Murdock in 2014.

The junior also teamed with Bri Paterna, Izzie Bremer and Eli Cross to win the 4×800 relay, which was held Feb. 1 at the University of New Hampshire. The quartet finished in 9:15.38 to break the state record of 9:37.52 set by Manchester Central in 2001.

Exeter also set an indoor record for points in a girls championship meet, scoring 126 to best the 113.33 points scored by Hollis Brookline in the 2002 Class IMS meet. Pinkerton (54 points) took second, while Bedford (37) was third and Portsmouth (30) took fourth. Timberlane (27) rounded out the top five.

Here are the top six finishers in each event. The 4×800 and the high jump were held at UNH on Feb. 1, all other events were held Sunday at PSU.
