Gatorade’s Players of the Year from New Hamsphire

Here’s a look at the dozen athletes from the Granite State deemed the best in their respective sports by Gatorade for the 2013-14 year.

Here’s a look at the dozen athletes from the Granite State deemed the best in their respective sports by Gatorade for the 2013-14 year.

Girls Track: Hannah Parker, Coe-Brown

  • The junior had an outstanding season for Coe-Brown, helping the girls win indoor and outdoor titles in Division II. Individually, Parker finished first in the 1,000-meter run (3:00.42) and ran a leg of the 4×400 relay (finished second) and 4×800 relay at the indoor championships. The 4×800 team finished first (9:45.82), setting a division record. During the outdoor season, Parker won the 800 (2:11.37) and the 1,600 (4:55.05), setting division records in both, and she ran a leg of the 4×400 (second) and 4×800 (first).

Boys Track: John Cioffredi, Lebanon

  • Cioffredi was dominant in the field events during his senior year, helping Lebanon win both the Division II indoor and outdoor titles. At the indoor championship, he won both the high jump (6-6) and the long jump (20-5.5) and came in second in the shot put, while also helping the Raiders 4×200 team finish third. During the outdoor season, Cioffredi was first in both the high jump (6-6) and the triple jump (42-11) and was second in the long jump and the shot put.

Softball: Erika Millett, White Mountains

  • Millett became the first softball player from White Mountains to earn the award after turning in a stellar senior year. The pitcher was 13-0 in the circle during the Division III regular season with 1.35 ERA and 115 strikeouts, and she also hit .475, with an on-base percentage of .522. Millett also helped lead the Spartans to the D3 championship game for the third year in a row.

Baseball: Rob Del Signore, Londonderry

  • Del Signore was also the first baseball player from Londonderry to earn the award after helping the Lancers to the finals for the second year in a row and to their first championship since 2010. The senior, who will continue his career at Southern New Hampshire University, was also the Division I player of the year and was selected to the D1 first-team for the third year in a row.

Boys Basketball: Isaac Copeland, Brewster Academy

  • Copeland did a little of everything for the Bobcats, averaging 15.6 points, seven rebounds, 2.4 steals, 2.3 assists and 2.2 blocks a game, while helping Brewster go 33-2 on the season. The Bobcats also won the NEPSAC Class AAA championship and reached the National Prep Championship game. Copeland will continue playing at Georgetown University next year.

Girls Basketball: Aliza Simpson, Londonderry

  • Simpson was named the top girls basketball player after helping the Lancers win the Division I championship. Despite missing eight games during the regular season, Simpson averaged 18.2 points, 8.4 assists, 6.6 rebounds and 5.6 steals per game. The senior will be continuing her career at the University of New Hampshire.

Boys Soccer: Daniel Hazlett, Hanover

  • An All-American selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, Hazlett helped lead Hanover to an undefeated season and a Division I title. The senior scored 16 goals and had seven assists and will play at Dartmouth College next year.

Girls Soccer: Gabi Brummett, Derryfield

  • Brummett turned in an outstanding freshman season for the Cougars, scoring 66 goals and recording 15 assists, netting at least one goal in 18 of 19 games. Brummett is the No. 13th ranked player for the Class of 2017 and is a U.S. Soccer U14 National Team pool player.

Boys Cross Country: Jeremy Brassard, Coe-Brown

  • Brassard was the state’s top cross country runner, winning his second straight Meet of Champions title in 15 minutes, 50 seconds. The senior also won the Division II title for the second year in a row and was named the Runner of the Year by the New Hampshire Cross Country Coaches Association for the second time.

Girls Cross Country: Maegan Doody, Oyster River

  • Selected as the New Hampshire Cross Country Coaches Association’s Runner of the Year, Doody was first in the Meet of Champions, finishing in 18:12. The sophomore also came in third in the Division II meet and was 11th at New Englands.

Girls Volleyball: Molly Wotton, Dover

  • Wotton helped the Green Wave go undefeated as they won their first Division I title. The senior recorded 301 kills, 209 digs and 117 service aces to earn her second straight Gatorade Player of the Year Award. She finished her career with 853 kills and 264 aces and will play at UNH in the fall.

Football: Trevor Knight, Nashua South

  • Knight became the fifth player from Nashua South to win the award, as he led the Panthers to a 9-2 record. The senior threw for 1,800 yards and 19 touchdowns, completing 57 percent of his passes, while also rushing for 1,553 yards and 19 more touchdowns. Knight also made 36 tackles and intercepted four passes on defense, and he’ll continue his playing career at UNH.
