Girls Lacrosse Roundup: Kennett, Timberlane pick up key road wins (videos)

MERRIMACK – The Kennett High School girls lacrosse team took control of Wednesday’s game in the first half and held off Merrimack for a 12-5 road win.

Myra Johnston led the Eagles (4-5) with five goals and Leffy Zipf added for goals while Summer Laine scored twice and Emma Dziedzic recorded a goal. Charlotte Jerome also played well for Kennett in goal.

The Tomahawks (7-4) got three goals and an assist from Lyla Carls and Riley Taylor added two goals. Ava Woods and Liv Mitchell had an assist apiece while Sophia Richards made seven saves.

Merrimack took a 1-0 lead with just under five minutes left in the first quarter, but Kennett responded with four goals in the final 2:48 of the first, including one with no time remaining in the quarter.

The Eagles led 7-2 at halftime, and while the Tomahawks kept possession for most of the third quarter, they were only able to cut into the lead by a goal, 8-4. Three goals in the final six minutes helped Kennett put the game away.

No. 9 Timberlane 15, Goffstown 7

GOFFSTOWN – Rylee Donahue and Julia Johnson each had four goals to lead the Owls past the Grizzlies.

Donahue added four assists, eight draw controls and two caused turnovers while Johnson also had two assists and two caused turnvoers. Lila Fitzgerald scored three goals and had four draw controls while Aubrey Fitzgerald had two goals, an assist and two caused turnovers for Timberlane (9-1, No. 9 in the New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center/NHHSSports Coaches Poll).

Ava Paul also scored twice and Kayla Apitz finished with seven saves while Alexa Rung, Mia Morrier, Grace Gerhard and Mackenzie Norcott played well.

Goffstown (6-3) got two goals apiece from Mia Brisette and Trinity Lunn while Sydney Lavoie (eight draw controls) and Ella Coletti had a goal and an assist apiece.

Maeve Hammond also scored and Jenna Shannon had two caused turnovers while Yeimi Martinez made 12 saves.

No. 10 Nashua South 9, Hollis Brookline 4

Carly Benzekri scored seven goals to lead the Panthers to the win over the Cavaliers.

Briley Landsteiner added a goal and an assist while Lexi McGuire had a goal and Wylie Hart had an assist for South (8-4). Emma Herlihy recorded five saves while Maddie Langer, Karina Santana, Nicole DeJesus, Bella Hwalek, Nitzann Alkalay and Hailey Cote played well defensively.

Trinity 18, Inter-Lakes/Moultonborough 8

Audrey Gumpert made 13 saves for the Lakers but it wasn’t enough against the Pioneers.

Aubrey Breese, Kate Taylor and Makayla Peterson had two goasl apiece for ILMA (3-10). Summer Hamill also had a goal.

No. 6 Winnacunnet 23, Merrimack Valley 8

Emily Arlington and Ari Rizzo each had five goals to lead the Warriors past the Pride in a rematch of last year’s D2 final.

McKinley Fowler added four goals and Elle Emery had two goals and five assists for Winnacunnet (9-2). Addy McErlain also had two goals while Reece Gandt, Annika Jacques, Hannah Curtin, Fiona McAfee and May Mitchall added a goal apiece.

Lilly Jones had three goals to lead Merrimack Valley (5-4) while Hannah Dubuque and Abby Thompson had two goals apiece.

Kennebunk (Maine) 11, Exeter 10

The Blue Hawks got out to a lead in the first quarter but the Rams came back in the second half for the win.

Riley Benevides had four goals to lead Exeter (9-5) while Claire Wilhelm (one assist), Phoebe Christenson and Avery Carrigan added two goals each.

Racquel Battle and Grace McIlroy each had an assist and Molly Byrne recorded four saves.

St. Thomas 25, Gilford 11

The Saints came out on top of the Golden Eagles in a rematch of last year’s D3 final.

Julia Bryan had six goals and Talula Gregg scored five goals to lead St. Thomas (9-2) while Charlotte De Tolla and Lizzy Holden had four goals apiece.

Sophia Kelly and Kate Kreycik each had two goals while Riley Thomas and Payton Baker had a goal apiece. Charlotte Kelly played well defensively and Reese Foss made seven saves.

Hopkinton 20, Pelham 9

Ella DeSimone and Jessica Phillips led the Pythons offense but it wasn’t enough in a loss to the Hawks.

DeSimone had five goals while Phillips had four goals and an assist for Pelham (3-6). Julianne Rocha and Isabella Santolucito each added an assist.
