Girls Lacrosse Roundup: Winnacunnet hangs on to beat Goffstown

MANCHESTER – Despite playing most of the second half Saturday down a player, the No. 2 Winnacunnet High School girls lacrosse team was able to hold off No. 3 Goffstown for an 11-6 win in the Division II semifinals at Manchester Memorial High School.

Ari Rizzo scored four goals and McKinley Fowler had three goals and an assist for the Warriors (17-3), who advanced to the D2 title game for the third year in a row, where they’ll be looking for back-to-back titles.

Emily Arlington also had two goals and an assist while Hannah Curtin scored a goal and Reese Gandt picked up an assist. Benton Lyford added eight saves.

Winnacunnet received three yellow cards in the first half and then picked up a fourth with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter, leaving the Warriors down a player the rest of the way. They led 6-4 at the time of the infraction, but the Grizzlies (10-6) were unable to take advantage.

Sydney Lavoie had three goals to lead Goffstown while Mia Brissette had a goal and an assist. Paige Winter and Maeve Hammond also scored and Trinity Lunn had an assist.

The Grizzlies led 2-1 after one quarter and the teams traded goals in the second, with the game tied 4-4 going into halftime. Brissette scored 45 seconds after the fourth card on Winnacunnet to make it 6-5 Warriors, but Goffstown wouldn’t get any closer the rest of the way.

Winnacunnet will take on No. 5 Hanover in the championship game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter.

No. 5 Hanover 12, No. 1 Timberlane 11

Claire Higgins scored the go-ahead goal with 2:06 to play and the Bears made it hold up in a semifinal win over the Owls.

Cassidy Loughman finished with five goals and Higgins had four to lead Hanover (12-6) while Casey Wilkinson had a goal and two assists.

Iris Chesnut and Sally Gaughan also had a goal apiece and Joia Collins finished with three assists. Maeve Bradley also had an assist and Rainey Fisher came up with a save on a free position by Timberlane’s Rylee Donahue with under 90 seconds to play.

Donahue had seven goals and an assist, to go with six draw controls, for the Owls (16-2) while Julia Johnson had three goals and an assist.

Lila Fitzgerald also had a goal, an assist and five draw controls and Ava Paul had two assists and two groundballs. Aubrey Fitzgerald also had an assist while Mia Morrier had four caused turnovers and Kayla Apitz made seven saves.

Division III Playoffs

No. 3 St. Thomas 15, No. 2 Hopkinton 12

Julia Bryan had six goals for the Saints as they held off the Hawks in the semifinals.

Talula Gregg added four goals and Annita Parmelee scored three times for St. Thomas (17-2), which advanced to the championship game for the fourth year in a row.

Charlotte De Tolla and Lizzy Holden added a goal apiece while Charlotte Kelly, Maia Scanlon and Jules Stowell played well defensively and Reese Foss had six saves.

The Saints will take on No. 1 Bow in the final at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bedford High School.

No. 1 Bow 14, No. 4 John Stark 4

The Falcons did well on the draw to keep possession time up in a semifinal win over the Generals.

Rowin Ledy finished with 10 saves to lead John Stark (14-4) while Claudia Dustin and Zoe Lawson had a goal and an assist apiece. Addie DeCew and Addy Brunini also each had a goal.

Division I Playoffs

No. 2 Souhegan 8, No. 3 Pinkerton 7 (OT)

Izzy Stevenson scored with 1:28 left in overtime, as the Sabers rallied in the second half for a semifinal win over the Astros.

Souhegan (17-1) trailed 5-0 in the third quarter but got two goals apiece from Stevenson, Libby Kennedy, Emmie Curran and Averie Curran to get the win. Kennedy, Averie Curran and Lanai Hickman each had an assist.

Francesca Doyle had four goals to lead Pinkerton (15-6) while Sookie Folsom added two goals and Melayna Marra also scored.

The Sabers return to the title game for the second year in a row, where they will once again face No. 1 Portsmouth at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bill Ball Stadium in Exeter.

No. 1 Portsmouth 15, No. 4 Exeter 4

Lily Patterson and Elliott Blankinsop each had three goals to get the Clippers past the Blue Hawks in the semifinals.

Ginger Vinciguerra, Georgia Bouvier and Raegan and Emery Lawton added two goals apiece for Portsmouth (17-0), which led 8-2 at halftime.
