Goffstown girls basketball holds off Pinkerton for win (video)

GOFFSTOWN – Ava Winterburn had 23 points to help lead the Goffstown High School girls basketball team to a 56-46 win Tuesday night against Pinkerton Academy.

Meredith Winterburn added 11 points and Ava Ruggiero was also in double figures with 10 markers as the Grizzlies (14-3) broke the game open late in the second quarter and carried the lead throughout the second half.

It was 20-19 Goffstown midway through the second quarter when the Grizzlies went on an 11-2 run to take a 10-point lead and it was a 33-23 advantage at halftime. Pinkerton (13-4) got within eight points twice in the third quarter, but couldn’t get any closer.

Elizabeth Lavoie led the Astros with 18 points and Sydney Gerossie added 12 points, but no one else had more than five.

The win wraps up the No. 4 seed in the Division I tournament for Goffstown, while Pinkerton will likely be the No. 5 seed. Both teams have one game remaining and the postseason is scheduled to begin on Feb. 28.
